Re: TPI Ram Air
If you have tpi the only nice ram air set up that looks clean is replacing the hood with ram air 2 hood and getting a air box. You can buy the hood painted but may not match 800-1500 for the setup hood, airbox, shipping, and painting.

Re: TPI Ram Air
With the number of third gens built, there must be a decent aftermarket CAI for TPI engines?
The SLP CAI doesn't look like much more than the stock airbox with a bigger hole. Some people have pod filters, and some camaro guys have dug holes through to where their foglights used to sit.
Doesn't anyone make an OTR CAI (over the radiator) for these?

Re: TPI Ram Air
no way do I agree with that BS. You get a ram air 1 hood with the appropriate air box like what my buddy has on his trans am. Then remove that hood and put on a 3" cold air intake and I guarantee he loses ET in the 1/4. If thats not proof enough then I dunno what is. Now if only I had a way to convince him to do it

Re: TPI Ram Air
I've read that the Ram air setup on the LT1's actually causes a vacuum in the scoop. The way the air flow is across the hood the scoop would need to be several inches taller to catch it. I read that in a hot rod magazine, I can't remember which. They were talking with some one that had worked at Pontiac in the 60's. They were saying the "Wide Track" and "Ram Air" were more of a marketing thing than anything else.
As an example while driving with your T-tops, if you have them, out stick your hand up slowly. You'll notice that you can get a 1/2 inch or more above the top of the car before you actually feel the air moving swiftly. This is the same thing that happens on the hood. Like said above, the LS1 WS6's hood would work better than the SS setup due to the "nostrils" being at the very front of the hood.

This isn't an Fbody but you can see the air flow over the hood.

This is a NSX, which would be closer in shape to a fbody.
I can't find an Fbody but you get the idea.

This guy has the CAI that SLP made specifically for the 3rd gen T/A.

Good Luck whatever you decide to do.

Re: TPI Ram Air
One of the best that I found is the TPIS mini ram intake. I had my car dyno'd before i put this on and after and gained 70 horse. I still have this on my motor today and is cranking out 470 horse. This website is where i get all my parts for my 88 camaro and running 11.9 in the quarter.

Re: TPI Ram Air
Don't wast your time with a cold air. Lost 2lbft of torque and only gained 1hp with an open MAF over a stock box with a drop in K&N. Ram air isn't going to give you enough of a gain either for the cost to set it up. Looks awsome though.
Re: TPI Ram Air
Won't the ramair provide cold air just like the cold air kit? But do it in a much shorter route. My SLP cold air kit has approx. 5ft. of duct. The ramair would have approx. 16inches. I appriciate everyone's input on this.

Re: TPI Ram Air
When you say that you don't feel any improvment with your SLP cold air, did you dynoed it? At higher speed@WOT, it just blow your factory air duct. As for the ram ir hood with the huge filter at the very front end, I am sure that is a good improvment over the restricted factory setup. But, I don't know your engine specs as you have no shown sig, sometimes, these CAI are not really helping much with a factory setup or anything under 300 HP. But for the price of the hood, ram air, I would definitely go for a complete exhaust before I change the factory air duct.
When I first installed my dual SLP CAI with my older combo wich developped 359HP@flywheel, I felt loosing low end torque. But now with my new setup, I can hear it, feel it and surely it help the engine to breathe more.
Good luck!
