will a stock tpi run okay with the egr valve disconnected?

I was planning on buying the mini ram set up & I was wondering if the EGR valve was just left disconnected, would the stock computer sense a problem & go nuts & make the car drive awful?

No, it will run just fine. The EGR is not part of the sensor system, it only cools the incoming air to the cylinders. Mine's been off for a couple years, and I get no codes or emission problems.

The EGR being disconnected should set code 32!
There is an EGR diagnostic switch.
Its contacts are open when hot exhaust gasses are not flowing through the EGR valve and its contacts are closed when hot gasses are flowing though the EGR valve.
If the diagnostic switch is closed at start-up it sets code 32.
Also If the coolant temp is over 176°F ,and the commanded EGR duty cycle is over 48%, and the throttle position is not at idle or wide open, and codes 21, 22, 33 or 34 are not set, and all of these conditions are met for 4 minutes or more code 32 should be set.
If code 32 isn't set under the above conditions something is wrong or the EGR flag in the PROM is disabled.

The way around code 32 is a custom prom with the EGR flag disabled.
You can learn more about this on this sites PROM Board

IROCKZ4me,

I thought that too, but my setup has proven different. I can't run EGR due to my edelbrock cylinder heads. So I figured I would just "fool" the computer, but I got the code 32. So I just unhooked the power lead that comes from the fuze box for the EGR and I never got the code again.

I can't explain why it does not give me an error other than without the +12 the whole circuit must be off and it does not check it. I am going to assume the check program has an "out" if some condition does not exist.

I never spent much time looking into this as I want to make a custom prom anyways.

This is a 1987 L98 stock prom. Go figure.

Mark.

I disconnected the one on my 86 TA (took the vacuum line off) and it never set a code. Stock chip.
Another car, stock 88 chip, I eliminated the wires from the harness completely. It never set a code either.
Ive heard of people doing the same thing I did, and they got a code. I dunno if they did something different, or GM is inconsistent. I vote for GM being inconsistent.

Try it, see what happens.
