From No Idle To False Lean?
Thanks to everyone who gave me some advice with my last post about not getting my Firbird to idle.
Like I said in the previous post, the car will now hold any idle I want, but the scanner is screaming lean and my plugs & cat are crying rich. First I must state, the last advice I got was to correct the timing, change plugs, and get a new PROM. The timing was corrected and that helped; I do not want to change plugs becasue I bet they'd get fouled much the ones I already have in it-I plan on a plug change when I get this issue figured out. They also are not so fouled that the torch did not clean them off. The chip swap is addressed below.
My tests and results since I last posted:
-car holds chunky "top fuel" idle at 1000 RPM
-I could NOT tune the scanner-lean out of it with timing
--> with EST disconnected, I got lots of pops into my plenum at 8*, these went away with more timing
-scanner still will not move off of "Lean"
-my O2 mV do not go above .400 at idle or with throttle applied (stay .300-.400)
-bench tested the O2 sensor, in the flame I got .88+, remove flame went immediately to <.1 and back and forth, 2-minute drill showed occasional .2 -.3 voltage decrease-but immediately went back into the upper .8's....sensor ok
-cat (2 cats-passenger side only) still turns orange, quicker with more timing added
-checked pins at ECM harness, all appeared to be making a connection
-SES bounce test was ok
-disconnected MAF: car would start, hold 2k idle for a couple seconds, rev to 3k and then die
-after O2 bench test and MAF reconnected, car would still show scanner-lean, mV still did not exceed 400, but I got 68 crosscounts under throttle
-at idle, IAC shows 45 steps
-complete plug check showed all but plug #5 were black, and smelled like gas and had oil on the threads (no external oil leaks seen); plug 5 was tan in color w/ no smell; plug 8 was black but the top of the electrode was white with a minimal gas smell
-obviously, car never went into closed loop
I have talked to my chip tuner, and freind who is a mechanic. I was advised to call Summit or Venom and see if maybe I have too big an injector for this application. What do you all think..30lb too big for port-matched and ported intake 52mm TB car? (mods in sig)
I am beginning to think that my scanner-lean is really a false lean due to my injectors saturating my O2 sensor. Would anyone agree? After I talk with Venom, I may step down a few pounds to a smaller injector and have my chip then reflashed to reflect this.
If anyone would please weigh in on my injector and O2 sensor theories, I would most appreciate it.
Eric

Re: From No Idle To False Lean?
I got some slack from one of my advice guys as it related to my injector choice/cylinder head combo. So I wanna post some specs in case they would help in gettting me a rock-solid solution.

Re: From No Idle To False Lean?
The final Jepoardy answer was that my brand new AS&M runners were warped .030 on all four flanges. I got them machined flat and the car runs great now. Good luck if you have this product!
