Cutting Out

1985 Z28 305tpi. Wants to cut out at initial acceleration and periodically at higher speeds, also sometimes surges (rpm's flucuate)at de-acceleration....new fuel pump - problem existed prior to new pump install......any ideas, thanks.

You probably should replace the fuel filter as well.

If problem persists, you may want to look into the iginition...PU coil, reluctor, module, cap and rotor, etc....

A good tune-up and fuel filter is in order. Also, when was the last time you replaced the O2 sensor? This should be replaced every 30k miles. If you have TPI, look at the TPS sensor. See if it is set correctly, and check the sweep of it, to see if it has a short.

man, anything with the old MAF sensor and I'd have to suspect that first, even if the engine had an obvious gaping hole in it.

no, I don't know with just that info & no testing, but MAF's can be flakey and cause intermittant problems.

Yeah, especially that weatherpack! That caused me so much grief because one little female connector in there was ever so slightly out of shape. Something you can't tell when you backprobe the wires...
