LT1 intake for TPI???

Ok guys, here is the deal, i am installing a SBC 383 into my 95 Z28, i want to retain the EFI but since no opti no go.

So, if i wanted to use my LT1 intake and mod it by LT1intake.com how hard is it to make a TPI PCM work? Is it hard to hook all of it up or pretty easy? I have only built carb motors, i only have replaced parts on EFI cars so i have no knowledge for it, i know i will have to have a chip burned right?

Can the LT1 injectors be used fine or what? I hope to make this happen, i hear i need a 91-92 to get it to work? Am i on the right track? Come on TPI gods, i know you can help.

Thanks,
Zane

Re: LT1 intake for TPI???

The SBC distributor wont fit under the 4th gen cowl, so you're in for a lot of cutting and fabricating.
Otherwise, yes the LT1 injectors will work, and yes a 90-92 TPI '7730 computer is the better one to use. And yes you should get a custom chip to work with the 24lbs LT1 injectors.

Re: LT1 intake for TPI???

Well, is there a good place to get the 90-92 TPI harness for cheap? I am on a tight budget so i dont have money to just throw at things.

A junkyard or salvage yard is the only place to get one "cheap." Otherwise for new you're looking at places like Painless or Howell-EFI or Street & Performance.

Look, I'm not doing your work for you. Do a search, call those places, and ask them. You wont learn if you have someone else hold your hand for you.

From a budget standpoint, the Megasquirt is a good way to go, but then there's the tradeoff. You stated in your initial post that you're not very knowledgeable when it comes to EFI. From what I've read about the Megasquirt setup, it's very affordable, but the downside to it, especially for beginners, is that the learning curve is quite steep. If you had the money to spend, you could go with one of the aftermarket DFI setups (Accel DFI; F.A.S.T, Holley Commander 950; etc). They're a bit easier to work with vs. the MS. For the money, finding a salvaged, original 90-92 harness and ecm is still going to be your best bet. If you're not in a huge hurry, one will pop up in the classifieds here, or on Ebay eventually. I got my 90-92 SD harness from a member on here a while back, in excellent shape, for a paltry $150 shipped, and it even came with the relays and the battery cables. You can snag a 730 ecm really cheap in the junkyard since they came in a bunch of V6 cars(without the correct PROM of course), including the 90-92 3.1 f-bodies.

Re: LT1 intake for TPI???

Wouldn't it be better to run a corvette 90-91 ECM in his car this way the ecm can still be mounted under the hood like his original. That would seem much easier then then running harness under the dash and find a spot to mount the ECM.

Re: LT1 intake for TPI???

Jproz, that is a great idea, i am still learning all i can, i am doing as much research as possoble before i just hop onto a EFI setup. I am going to take my time and make sure i make the right decision. I found the MS on ebay for 250$ish. Not too bad huh? I am learning a great dea; and i am pretty sharp so i think i will be able to figgure it out. I do however need a lap top.

Re: LT1 intake for TPI???

Yeah, good call there Jproz. The 727 ecm is nice since it's weatherproof and can be mounted in the engine compartment no problem. I think you have to swap out the ecm connectors and do a little re-pinning to use it with a f-body harness, but it didn't look too difficult to do the last time I read a post about it.
