Do I need an Accel TPI base?

OK, I'm building a L98 for my '91 GTA. It will have a ZZ4 cam/springs, Edelbrock headers, Holley AFPR, ported plenum, gasket matched TPI, 3" exhaust, K&N, coil, wires, and all the basic stuff. I'm also planning on a 6-speed and 4.10's. Right now there is a GP for like $300 for the intake... should I buy it? I've heard its the biggest restriction in a TPI. Will this help me alot, or should I just save for my 6-spd project? Thanks for any help. L8R

YES, you should for sure purchase the Accel base, its one of the very best, and its over $200 less with our current GP. The base is a much bigger restriction than are the plenum or runners. I am trying to convince my parents to lend me $300 so I can buy one!

Next you need to ditch those wimpy Edelbrock headers for some 1 3/4" SLP's!

(Not you Dan, the other guy)

I'll see what I can afford.

Kevin- Those wimpy headers were FREE! They came with the wrecked car I bought. They have to be better than manifold?!?! I don't have $400 to spend on headers right now either. Oh well. Later guys

Actually, the runners do pose a bigger restriction than the base. Here are the flow numbers:
stock runners: 202cfm
stock base manifold 222 cfm

The edelbrock's r a much better header than SLP. Yeah right u say, Ok for example lets take an edelbrock system which runs for about 299.00 in summit port the internals yourself, all together around 325.00. On the other hand SLP headers run about 450.00, Oh yeah SLP's tend to leak. Go for the edelbrock. Trust me i know plenty of people that went from SLP to edelbrock.

I think the better bang for the buck are far as 1 5/8" headers go are Edelbrocks. There's a large difference in price, not much (if any) in quality. If you're running a hot 350 like most are, then I'd say go for the SLP's. They offer them in 1 3/4" as well as 1 5/8". Edelbrocks are 1 5/8" only. Both are good quality, it just depends on who needs what. I'm considering SLP's for my 355 (I think there's a GP for them for like $125 off!).

I'm not even gonna get into this arguement again, other than to say Dan is running Edelbrock headers because he's at high altitude, he cant use the extra breathing from larger headers.

SLP headers ARE better than Edelbrocks. Plenty of people have switched to them as well. Yah Edelbrocks are cheaper, but thats right, they're cheap. You get what you pay for.

Getting back on topic, GTA91, if you can afford the intake manifold, go for it. If you'd rather save for a T56, then you can port-match your stock intake cheaply.

I know several people around me with eldb. headers and they hate them I on the other hand have had my slp 1 3/4 headers since 1996 and love them. I would never go to a cheep header like those. they have thinner flanges(makes them wan't to leak). second why in the world would you put a none heated o2 so far a way from the header?

There's a thread on the group purchase in this forum, and you can also check the group purchase forum itself.

What type of heads and cam would work best with the Accel base and runners? What about if I get the Super ram instead of runners with the accel base?

I'm getting the base in the Group Purchase.
I was thinking of getting AFR 190's, a ZZ4, or possibly just a ported Vette L98 Alum. head. Which would work best with the base and runners, or which would work best with the base and superram?
