Sounds about right to me. Anything rubber just dries up down here! I bought my '87 last year with 42,500 miles and it smoked when it's starts. It's at 53K now and still smokes when it starts I'm planning a ZZ4 head (and cam just for good measure) swap to cure the problem

Mine did the same thing when I first bought it. I just picked up a set of Fel-Pro seals from Advance auto and fixed it. No smoking anymore .

I would definitely do it with the heads in the car, unless you're planning other modifications or new valve guides or something. I did mine with the heads in the car and didn't have too much trouble. Make sure you use a magnetic tool or something to hold onto those little keepers or you may have to pull the heads. Good luck!

For a 1.250" (stock spring) on my ZZ4 cam with 1.6 rollers I used K-Motion model 750 springs. 130# on the seat (1.7" installed height) #380 over the nose and lots of room before coil bind. They're pricy though at $126 a set from summit, but thats alot of lift to punish a 1.25" spring with. They're made from H-11 tool steel wire (better than silicon) and hold their # rating much longer. Cheapies out there might work for awhile but....

Retainer to guide clearence will have to be machined for this cam. Even with 1.5 rockers. And if you do this, you might as well have them machined for larger springs which will be cheaper!

A salesman at Scoggin-Dickey told me to use the Lt4 Hot cam springs they are only $69 for the springs, retainers and locks.
