Oil Pressure Loss... have no clue about remedy
Hey guys I tried to search but the search isn't working but i have an issue... when i start the car the oil pressures about how it should be but its a little below 30 but after the car warms up the pressure goes to zero. Whats causing this? my oil pump giving up? Oil just to old and thin? or is the gauge going out? If u have any other ideas let me know or if u know how to solve this problem plz help me. I appreciate it guys. -Matt

Probably a bad gauge sender. If you really had zero oil pressure, you'd know about it in a hurry.

Yeah, mine does this sometimes too, after searching I realized lots of people have this problem, im gonna try changing the sneder/switch ans seeing what it does, if tis not that then the actual gauge is probally whack.

well you have an oil pump from 1986 running in your oil pan right? well hopefully that isnt the problem, but it very well could be. check the sending unit and guage first

An oil pump is a dumb enough device that they very rarely fail. When they do, you know about it, because you have no oil pressure at all, and your lifters and bearing start making hellacious noises as your engine eats itself.

Re: Oil Pressure Loss... have no clue about remedy
Well i have been playing with the car and once the pressure drops due to the car heating up it starts to smoke pretty good. its white smoke so its an oil leak... but when it is running with good pressure its a very light white smoke that you can barely see.. but once it heats up there is a light white cloud from the exhaust. i hope that this helps someone on aiding in the solution of my pressure problem. thanks so far guys. I haven't been able to check anything yet. i will when i can. thanks -Matt

White smoke is usually coolant burning. Have you noticed the coolant level going down at all?
As for your oil pressure problem. Look at the oil, make sure it is not milky (water in the oil from a bad HG).
Also, connect a mechanical gauge to the engine and read the pressure to verify that your sender is correct.

yeah if the motor was burning oil it would do it a lot at startup, not only when the car heats up.

My gage goes whacky a lot (drops down to nothing) - but when I physically tap the gauge panel cover, it'll go back to normal. Bad gauge (Sometimes at idle in drive (like at a light), the needle goes up and down really fast, but as soon as I hit the gas it reverts to normal)?
