Ignition Module, aftermarket or Delco?

I am thinking about replacing the iginition module in the distributor. It has been in there for 10 years now and i know stuff does not last forever. Just did a motor swap and used the same distributor.

OK, should I go with a new delco part, Accel, MSD...etc? Which one is the best and why?

im sure an aftermarket one will help out more in the higher rpms, but how often are you driving 6500-7000 rpm?

actually....every weekend. The car is for street and strip. If I put 2000 miles a year on that is a lot.

I put an accel module and a hypertech coil in my 89 RS when it had the 305TBi in it. I gained about 500 more useable RPM thru all the gears. However the Accel module fried, actually burned a hole thru the top of the module! Perhaps not enough dielectric grease under the module...

My Accel module failed after not even a year of street driving.
I know have an AC Delco, no problems.

I heard MSD makes a good one though.

Get one with the best warranty! NAPA sells two, a standard and better, both with a one year warranty. One's $25, the other $35.

GMHTP tested the Accel module and found an average gain of 4hp and 4lb-ft across the powerband. July 2000 page 66

Fastbird,

I have the Accel module and have had no problems. I could not notice a difference, but 4 hp is hard to feel sop. I saved the Delco unit just in case.

My Accel module lasted all of 3 months. I know it was installed properly. The Autozone replacement has been going for 3 years now. I really can't tell the difference.

I was thinking of going with an Accel module myself since I'm running with an Accel super coil. Is there anyone out there not having trouble with Accel modules?
