Slightly different version of: Power from Heads and Cam swap on 305 TPI?
Slightly different version of: Power from Heads and Cam swap on 305 TPI?
Hi All.
I know this question is somewhat redundant but I have some different parameters.
I have a 305 TPI Auto vert.
My first project is to convert it over to a manual tranny.
I have a 3.42 disc rear coming from my old CMC race car that a friend is sending.
Eventually, in the next year or so, I'll build a Big motor. Smog laws are changing here in WA so I;m going to wait and see which way to go. Maybe a big LT motor w 400+ RWHP. but for now I'd like to make the 305 worth having without dropping all kinds of money into it.
I do drive at road courses so I expect I'll never have a 6500 rpm TPI motor but...
Is the TPI motor already a Hydraulic roller cam?
How much power could I reasonably expect from a bigger but smog legal HR cam and porting the existing heads?
That is the redundant question, and then what else can I do on the CHEAP to make it fast?
Would going to 1.6 rockers help or moving the rpm band up, not help because there isn't enough air coming from the TPI to make a difference?
I want to aviod having to buy 305 specific stuff because eventually I'll go to some unknown motor and the stuff probably wont transfer.
Ofcourse I'll be doing brake upgrades and full suspension with chassis stiffeners this year.
But what is the best and cheapest way to make the 305 keep me happy until the big motor shows up?
Thanks
Evan
