thin head gaskets for my S/R torker heads a few ?'s

i spoke to my local speedshop owner (guru) and he informed me that felpro makes a thin .015 compressed head gasket, to help me regain a the compression that i might lose when i put my 67cc chamber heads on my L98 TPI whats your opinion of these gaskets...r they still reliable for everyday driver?. he estimates i will go from 9.3 to 9.0 compression with the S/R torker heads and that would save me the trouble of milling them. need second opinions.... i really dont want to mill them by the way he said that the torkers r an xcellent choice for my application. headers and 1.6 comp cams rr's are also in order for next week...

going from 58 cc's to 67 will drop you around .9 1 cc=.1 in compression going with a thinner gasket will help but you'll only be about 8.6 to 1

Hey Eddie, I'm using that gasket on my 305H.O. with no problems whatsoever. Felpro's gasket is coated, and if you spray the gasket with Loctite Ultra-copper spray-a-gasket, you wont have to worry about it leaking ever.

One thing that's critical with this gasket is the preparation of your deck and your cylinder head surface: They must be smooth. Some machine shops will deck such that you have ridges in the material for "bite". Ask that they machine as smooth as possible. There's a note in the gasket pack that specifically describes the finish required.

One last thing: Even the 305H.O. and 305TPI motors came with steel head gaskets, straight from the factory, so I think that reliability is not a big concern.
