Gear Drives

I just wanted to know why we can't use the gear drives (for the cam) on the TPI engines?

The big reason I've heard of is that the gear sends vibrations through the engine. The knock sensor picks this up as detonation and retards timing. I don't know that the vibrations are constant, if they were the computer would back off timing as much as allowed. Your car will run like shlt.

I stand corrected. You can use them. Pulling into a parking lot full of people, with a slight lump in the cam, and a gear whine is the best feeling in the world!!

I have had my quiet gear drive on since '97... No problems yet...

You probably (might) will have problems with the noisey one though on a computer controlled car.... But I don't even think they make one for a roller cam... Could be wrong though....

I have yet to see a noisy drive for the roller cammed engines. No big deal, I think the quiet one is noisy enough.

Thanks for all the input guys. Ive also heard the rumors that its has something to do with the knock sensor. Now here's another question, is there a way around the knock sensor? And would it be safe to bypass the sensor? Thanks again in advance.
