350 injectors in a 305?

can I pull this off? I am running stock injectors with my 305. At least one is leaking down and I have the chance to get 24# SVO for $150. Can I run them?

You'll need to change the Injector Flow Constant in the eprom or it will run far too rich.

By increasing the injector flow constant you'll compensate by shortening the injector pulse width. However, too large of an injector can result in the injector pulse width being so short at idle that it is irratic. 24# SVOs on a 305 should be ok, I know a few people running those, AFTER they adjusted their injector flow constant in the eprom.

PS: You will not be able to compensate adequately by adjusting your fuel pressure. Altering your fuel pressure has its greatest effect at high load situations and minimal effect at low load (ie. idle) situations.

Go to the DIY PROM board to learn how to burn your own eprom. It is realitively simple to do and only will cost around $250.00 for all the equipment and software.

Then, you can optimize your eprom and get some of that HP you are probably not getting do too inefficiencies along with far better gas mileage. Pays for all the equipment in a fairly quick time with the current price of gas.

24lb injectors are not 350 injectors. 350s came with 22lb injectors. FYI

These are 24 Lbs SVO injectors. I kind of talked myself out of them, but I was wondering how limited the 22Lbs are. If I go with a mild cam in my 350, will it be starved with the stock 22's?
Thanks both of you for replying.

No, the 22's will handle a mild 350 with no problem. I think they're good up to over 300 horsepower, depending on how efficient (BSFC) the engine is and how much pressure you're running at. As Glenn mentioned, you'll still have to change the injector constant for the 24# injectors regardless of what engine they're feeding. You can also get 19# SVO injectors for a little less money, but they won't be enough for a mild (more power than stock) 350.

Ron, you are absolutely correct that SVO 24# are not stock. In fact, they are similar to GM 26.5# using the GM method of rating injectors and require "adjusting" even on a 350, let alone a 305.

Now I am getting worried. I am looking at a Comp Cams 480/480 112 duration 210-220@.50 cam. With a ported plenum and Accel base, will I need the SVO injectors or will the 22Lbs GM ones work fine. I am going for reliability here so help me out please.

I will be running the SVO in the 350. I might if i need to switch the 19 for 22 in the 305, but my main concern is the 350, since that is what I am working on.

I replaced my #19 305 injectors with Ford Racing #24 injectors for my new 350. I have a ZZ9 cam, Torquer Heads, and a TPIS Level IV prom. For what its worth, I have the Fuel pressure set at 52psi and it runs way fat. I talked to Chris at TPIS and he told me to cut it back to low 30's.
