so a few days ago my gta would cut out and have no power and a sparratic tach. sometimes if i hit a bump the power would come back and tach would be mint

So i went to autozone today and had myn tested.. it was fine.. but i got it warrantyed anyway.

Installed it car runs like when the icm before would cut out

I thought maybe i crossed a wire, Wrong ,firing order was perfect 18436572

Cap was tightened down, timing wasnt moved, Module was snugged down and pick up coil connector clipped in

im just trying to think of something i could have moved or touched


any ideas?

Might want to stick your head under the dash and take a sniff at the ignition switch to. They tend to stink once they start to burn

Mine drove me nuts. Car would shut down and 10 minutes later everything had power. So by the time you got the tools out to test it was okay again.

thats an interesting idea. Although the thing is with a bouncing tach its got to be ICM

Or pick up right?

The pick up pulses the icm, the icm is known good so it has to be the pick up even though its like 2-3 months old

while im out there tomorow ill sniff the ignition switch

 

The tach is driven off the coil primary, so all kinds of misfire can cause it to bounce.

im going to toss another distributor in there and see how it works out

 

so i made sure my old dist. was good put it back in

and i take my hand and hit the passenger side panel under the dash
BOOM, car runs mint.. lol

Ecm must be junk and i have a spare in my other car

with the engine running crappy perform a case ground test for the ecm. good ground with negative test lead and positive lead on ecm case while engine is running poor. shouldn't be more than .01 volt. check for loose pins before putting the "new" ecm in. just some advice to keep from chasing the problem after installing the ecm.

 

it ended yp being the ecm connector not clipping in, i ziptied it lol works great
