Has anyone actually installed a ram air setup on their tpi equipped cars?
Has anyone actually installed a ram air setup on their tpi equipped cars?
I am very interested in the "cheap to free" mods, and remember reading articles such as the ram air mod we can do on our cars. How diffacult is this to do? Has anyone done it themselves? Anything else needed to be done along with it to work? How much gain did you notice, if any? Any help on this is greatly appreciated!

Check the tech articles here, there are plans for it. I did this on my car and I gained 1.5 MPH in the 1/4.

You can go to www.iroc-z.com and look in the tech articles and it shows a detailed how to on making a ram air set up,it will cost about $40 at home depot for the materials,i hear its good for about 20hp when incorporated with an airfoil and k&ns, perhaps even more,if you cant find the article then let me know and i will have my friend Sandy Mandel send you the info,he built the one on iroc-z.com,its a good set up and allows you to keep the fog lights too if you have an iroc.

I removed my foglites and gained 4 tenths, but it was two different tracks and weeks apart, so not much of a comparison. But I've since left the foglites off.
I'd like to see someone with a ram-air setup like this make a couple runs with the foglites in, and then remove them to see. They're held in by two bolts each, really easy to get to.

Just my .02, I feel cold air inductions is better than RAM air. Cold air benefits the car all the time while Ram air only comes into play above a certain speed and only if the hood scoop is in the air stream.
I had a cold air intake I built that went were the charcoal canister is on a camaro. I drilled a hole thru that pan (firebird battery pan) and mounted my K&N cone filter under the car. When I would go drag racing, I took the filter off (I know, not good for the car but neither is drag racing
)and ran some dryer duct hose to the front end spoiler. Instant ram air at the track.
I know that brandtmann@aol.com is setting his 91 RS up with TPI and the SS style hood. He has stuff for sale on the board under Jon Brandt.
I currently have the dual SLP cold air and love it. Moving the battery was a pain but not only does the cold air improve performance, it looks pretty impressive under the hood.

Why is there a difference between 'cold' air - going through where the battery used to be, or what we are refering to as 'ram' air, where it gets the air from the fog light tubes? I would tend to think that they would be the same up until the point where the 'ram' air came into effect (at high speeds), in which case the 'ram' air would have a small advantage over the 'cold' air. Maybe Im confused, but that seems to be the case. Doug

you are right about that one RAMAIR would be the same a cold air and would be better the faster the car goes. Cold just pulls air from were ever but RamAir pulls cold air fromthe front and then gets it shoved into the engine when the car starts to move.

I just think of Hood scoops that take air and Ram it into the engine as RAMAIR, like the 4th gen Ramair Birds and 4th gen SS Camaros. Now old Camaro's and Chevelles had Cowl Induction that took high pressure air from the windshield base and funneled it into the air cleaner. Cold air takes air from an area that is not heated by the radiator or engine compartment.
Is a car cover a modification if it's on someone elses car?

Here's a pic of my 6" diameter rubber tubes ( yes it was a ***** to get them in there
) With no fogs I got a repeatable 2 tenths and 2 mph . The tubes cost me like $12 , thats all I got in my set up

What about the ram air setup where u do the same thing, but put the ducts in front of the air dam and not through the driving lights area?? I've seen this, is it better than the other way??
