vette heads opinions wanted......800$new per pair

SDPC has them for 800$ assembled. i am contemplating them if ported will they perform? i am also doin cam and headers. any one have xperience with them? they have 58cc chambers compared to my 64cc chamvers what will my compression be after? and 163cc ports. my budget doesnt allow for much more than 800$

If your going to port them you could get a set of used ones from www.contemporarycorvette.com just make sure you get the 113 castings from the '88 and later L98's due to their .100" higher exhaust ports they flow much better than the older ones ('86-'87).

Oh and the 58cc chambers should be about a 1 point compression increase compared to 64cc castings.

Jeff

by going to a 58 cc head you will see a gain of .6 in your compression or roughly 1/2 point maybe .8 if you use a thinner gasket rule of thumb for every cc of size you will gain or lose .1 in compression

Just to let you know, you can get TFS 23 deg heads from Summit for $850. These heads will Laugh at any L98 Vette heads no matter how much you port them. Just thought I throw that in here.

yeah but my emmisions station attendent will laugh at me when i brag about my cc flow as he puts my bright red failed sticker on my windshield....23* heads from what i gather dont have egr passages. but the G2's do and they are over a grand.

The vette heads don't have EGR passages either.
To get working EGR you have to rig up a deal off the #8 header tube and run either a vette TPI baseplate or an Edelbrock or Accell.. gotta make it look something like this...

------------------
'89 Formula - Thunderchicken - 355 Vette L98/T-5/3.45 9-bolt/black/t-tops - the fun car!
'90 GTA - The GTA - 5.0 LB9/TH700/3.27 9-bolt/black/t-tops/tan leather - the cruiser.

The TFS 23deg heads are 50 state legal. When I got mine, they even came with a CARB EO number tag...Pretty damn hard to beat. The Exhaust passage was also drilled in mine. It has to be, to be 50 state legal.

Yeah go with the TFS 23º if that is your budget ceiling. Some guy has been selling them for $817 and $807 on Ebay for a few months. Myself I got NEW E-TEC 200's for less than you can buy the bargain basement TFS 23º heads, but that was just luck. Also the G2 is a real pain in the @ss to get roller rockers and valve covers to co-exist together. I have been thinking they are just selling out the rest of the G2 heads and will go with the 23º when they are gone, who knows for sure?
