305 & the 350 EGR
305 & the 350 EGR
I have an 87 gm, it came with a 305FI, I put a 350 in it a few years back and used the my old 305 intake on the new 350, I believe my EGR is bad, I am being told that the 305 & the 350 EGR are not the same for the two motors, They look the same, take the same gasket on both motors, the 305 EGR is $105 and the 350 EGR is $75, I don't see any difference in the way they look, can any one tell me if there is any difference besides the price,
I am also being told to just block it off, how would that affect the computer and or other sensors?
Thanks for the help...

Re: 305 & the 350 EGR
The difference is most likely the size of the orifice inside to meter how much exhaust goes back to the intake. Buy the cheaper one if you are using EGR.
I don't use it so I would block it off. You may need it if you are trying to pass emissions. It doesn't affect the computer on an 87 as long as the EGR vacuum actuator valve is plugged in so that the computer thinks it is turning it on and off.

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
I thought the '87 TPI had the EGR thermocouple sensor in it. I could be wrong, but the one I had (and never installed) had it.
If you don't run the EGR, it would be best to program it out of the PROM. May also need to adjust timing tables without it.
I don't know of any problem using the 350 EGR valve. Perhaps this would be better on the TPI forum rather than Engine Swap.

I think it sounds more like TBI, but maybe not...
A quick parts price search confirms TBI for the two prices he quoted for EGR valves up top...

There are 2 type of EGR valves positive, or negative back pressure.
part number should start with a P, or N.
