You choose a cam based on your mods and your power level. There are better ways to get power other than swapping cams if you have a stock motor.

One of the best ways is to use a program like dyno 2000 or engine analyzer, that lets you run different engine combinations and see the effects of your changes. Not 100% accurate, but close enough.

Price had a lot to do with my choice. I had my eye on the largest of the SLP cams (p/n 51010 I think - adv duration 280*,288* @.050" 224*,230* 502"I, 510"E) but the LT4 Hot Cam is VERY close to the same specs (adv duration 279*,287* @.050" 218*,228* 525"I, 525"E) as the SLP one and I still get my discount through the dealership I used to work at so the GMPP cam was about half the price of the SLP one for me.

I originally had looked at the SLP cam after a few recommendations from people who are running it and after looking at their setups/times. I knew I was putting in a stall converter so losing a little low end was not an issue and I figured my other upgrades/mods would help the cam work on the high end. You just gotta remember that everything works together - heads, cam, intake, exhaust, etc... - and if any ONE thing does not match, you will not see the power that you might expect/want. I haven't run mine hard yet as it only has 160 miles on it, but it sounds and feels very good.
