Car shutting off

I have an 85 tpi with about 87,000 miles. The car runs beautifully except for sometimes when I turn on the defrost/air vents/air condition. Usually my idle will get a little rougher when I turn them on and every once in a while the car will just shut off. The idle roughness always occurs but the shutting off doesn't happen often. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks

What is happening is when you turn on your defrost/ac the ac comprosser is comming on and putting a load on the engine. Your computer should sense the drop in RPMS and adjust the IAC to bring them back up to normal. It sounds like you IAC is dirty or not adjusted properly so the car runs rough because it's not getting enough air and sometimes stalling. There is a great article in the tech section on setting the IAC. The IAC is a computer contolled needle vlv in the throttle body that controls how much air the engine gets when it's at idle.
