Engine won't fire up...

I am getting spark, and pressure to the rails. Just changed the fuel filter... wasnt the problem. The ECM threw a code 43 while I was driving it... then started one last time, won't start now. When fuel is sprayed into the plenum, the thing starts up, idles for asec, and dies. I really need to figure this out...please help.

Tris

PS It sure as hell isnt my fuel pump.... I have great pressure, and you hear it loud and clear.

You obviously have a fuel delivery problem. If you are getting good fuel pressure to the rails than the problem must lie in the injectors or the injector driver circuits. Get a noid light and see if the computer is sending injector pulses to the injectors. You can also listen to them and/or put a finger on one while the engine is being turned over and you should be able to hear and feel them opening and slaming shut (a ticking sound can be heard if they are opening and closing and you can actually feel the pintle of the injector nozzle slaming shut if you put your finger on there). You can also perform a resistance check on the injectors (blade to blade on the injector with an ohmmeter) but this is often not all that useful unless the injectors are hot. My guess at this point, and it is ONLY a guess, you have lost injector pulse from the ECM. This is either becuase of a blown Injector fuse or a toasted ECM (fried injector quad-driver circuits). That is only a guess so I don't want anybody attacking me - else I will be forced to defend myself... lol. Good luck....

A few ideas.....

It's also possible that the reference pulses aren't getting to the ECM. Below 400 RPM or so the ignition module in the distributor controls spark. When cranking the engine you typically don't get above that so the ECM won't ever take control.

See if you can get a scan tool on the car and watch if the ECM is reading any RPM while you crank it.

I had a similar problem at one time that ended up being a wire that was broken in the distributor harness. New pigtail fixed it right up.

Check all of your grounds too.
