You mean the ld style HEI with the coil in cap? I don't think you would clear the extension off of the plenum. That style HEI has a pretty tall cap. IF you don't mind deleting the extension, I think it would fit...

It'll fit, as long as were talking about the early TPI coil-in-cap distributor. I ran one on my 305 TPI for a couple years. It should fit with a factory coil, but won't clear if you use a Supercoil, you'll need an aluminum cut-off plenum extension. Bought it from Jeg's for $18 2 years ago. Made specifically to clear Supercoils. I have 3 of the damn things in my garage. This 'large cap' is the coil-in-cap HEI distributor, right? The only problem I forsee is the connector...it changed around '86, so make sure it'll fit...
Well here's the deal I'm gonna put tpi on my 67 camaro and I got the early style non-computer controlled HEI with the coil in the cap. I'm using an Accel brute thunder coil that fits stock unlike the supercoil that's taller. So I guess it'll fit.
Just FYI I'm going with an SDS computer that just does fuel management.
Any tips anyone could give would be great
Thanks
