fastest 350 TPI

No strokers, NO2, or turbo/superchargers.
(over bore ok)

Still have the factory style TPI intake (aftermarket runners ok) NO HSR SUPER RAM

List you mods and times please.

thanks

Corrected to sea-level I should be around 13.3-13.5 @101-102...my exhaust is killing me and tuning is not known. I believe my CR is 9:1 as well

My UNCORRECTED times at 5000 DA were 14.3@96mph--To give you some perspective...LS1 6 speeds run 14.1 up here from what I can tell. LT1 cars are high 14 sec cars.

Re: fastest 350 TPI

In signature. Should easily get into the 12.4's with current setup. Maybe 12.3's with ideal weather conditions. Currently doing some upgrades for more power. Then we shall see.

the 1st ratio is static the 2nd is dynamic both are quite essential to a good overall build.

static is what you're use too i'm sure. dynamic is a lit more complicated and i don't have a perfect definition of it for you so i'll let someone else chime in

Re: fastest 350 TPI

Exactly. Static is the compression ratio most often seen. Dynamic is the compression ratio after the intake valve is closed. This is usually after the piston is already on the compression stroke. So that is why the number is less than the static.

Re: fastest 350 TPI

I ran a 12.91@105 a week ago at Prairie Hill. Here is my break down. I also ran a 12.98@103 at another track back in September.

1991 Z28 355, A4 with 2200 stall converter, factory 3.23 gears. Factory smog and A/C.

Weight Reduction:
Fiberglass hood
3 1/2 centerline warriors in front
15x8 centerline warriors in back with BFG DRs 275/50/15
Removed passenger seat
Racing seat for driver
No exhaust

Engine:
.30 over stock crank and rods
hyper pistons with ARP bolts throughout
Factory uptouched 113 aluminum heads
port plenum only TPI
factory runners
factory intake
1.6 roller tip rockers
LT4 Hot Cam
K&N filters in front
30# SVO injectors
Tuned by me
Hedman shortie headers

Chassis:
Poly bushings everywhere
Boxed lower control arms
No front sway bar

Hoping to hit 11s with a 150 shot. I think my DRs are about done. Buying some slicks this weekend but will probably trashed my rearend. It is factory by the way. I have the timeslips to prove it. These cars haul *** if you know what you are doing. I get tired of the 4500 rpm limit BS talk.

13.6 was best i could get bone stock L98 with full exhaust/2800 stall/3.42 gear. Buddy's L98 with aftermarket base runner, stock converter/3.73 gear on street tires ran 13.59 i think..very quick L98

Re: fastest 350 TPI

I have a 355, 2.02 (made from 1.94 stock heads) heads, summit cam and lifters #K1106 292/292, Lift .488/.488, flat top pistons, stock rods and stock rockers, fully stock, unported TPI. Backed by a TH350 (no speed sensor yet)
12 Bolt 3:73, Aluminum 3.5" driveshaft. Currently using 29.5" slicks.

The car has a rollbar and stock driver & passenger seats.

Best pass was 13.91 @ 98.14 mph.

I would like to get this car in the low 13's without taking the intake off (as in no mods to the base. I still need to cut the screens out of the MAF, add some kind of self built CAI. Do you guys think that with the two above mods with going to 28" tall tires will get me there? What tire size are you guys using? BranZ lists his but I don't see any one elses?

Thanks.

Re: fastest 350 TPI

bigger tire is hurting you with that setup. 28" will help. What size converter do you have in there?

cam looks abit big for a 355 TPI car tho.

Re: fastest 350 TPI

I have a Hughes 2500 stall in it. When I built the engine, I wasn't entirely sure that I was going to stay with TPI. That is why the choice of carb. If I can get this in the low 13's I am going to keep the TPI and be ok with it. If not, I may end up going carbed. I want to stay with the TPI though for a couple of reasons.
1. I already have it.
2. Everybody at the track uses carb.(For a good reason).
But fuel injection is supposed to be more consistent is it not?
I will be going to 28" tires for the spring.
This winter I am going to do all the cheap and free mods I can find. Any and all suggestions are appreciated along these lines.
I still need to do the IAC and the TPS mods too.

Re: fastest 350 TPI

that cam is a mismatch for the tpi and a stock tpi at that. if you had a ported edelbrock/slp tpi then it would be alot better... a fully ported out slp/edelbrock tpi should mimick a superram.... that cam u got there peaks at 6200 which the stock tpi peaks around 4800-5000 and is killing alot of that cams potential power.... also some suspension mods like lcas and lcarbs and and a torque arm would really help putting that power to the ground...

Re: fastest 350 TPI

I forgot to add that to my list of items. It is a Moser 12 Bolt with Moser adjustable control arms, adjustable panhard rod and torque arm. I shouldn't trouble making it stick.

How much would a guy have in the slp/edelbrock setup?

Re: fastest 350 TPI

in that case your suspension looks real good.... its the tpi thats the bottleneck of your combo... if your asking how much it is it depends.... retail the slp runners will set you back around 350.00 and the edelbrock intake is another 400.. so about 800 with shipping... its not cheap and there are better intakes that are cheaper but the looks of tpi cant be beat in my opinion.. the tpi can be made to perform very well.. i dont have dyno numbers or times slips on my new build but my car feels unbeatable from 0-70 honestly which makes for an excellent fun daily street car.. but i got mine on this site a couple years back for around 450 total...... i then ported it out myself for even more flow.... also you didn't mention if you had a tune... are you still running the stock tune... if so thats killing your combo also....

Re: fastest 350 TPI

Car will go low 13's if you get your 60 foot down where it should be with that setup. You have good tire/suspension and enough gear/converter to hit 1.7x 60's. What are you currently running on the 60 foot? From your trap speed and ET, i would guess low 1.9's

Re: fastest 350 TPI

also noticed you had the stock stamped steel rockers.... i would think roller tips would help like the pro mag 1.5 rockers..... the stockers go anywhere from 1.39 to 1.52 so they are not always constant and they are not so great either..... either way you should be going faster than what your running..... this is just my opinion but the 373 and tpi isnt the best... tpi has gobs of low end torque..use that torque to move the gears..... 3.27-3.45 gears would suit it better... i know you will start off like a rocket but you'll quickly be running out of gears by the time your at the end of the strip with tpi..... isnt that th350 a 3 speed.. again just my opinion...

Re: fastest 350 TPI

time slip:
60' 2.018
330' 5.787
1/8 8.904 @ 78.39
1000' 11.617
1/4 13.917 @ 98.12

I also have no exhaust at the moment. I am guessing with 28" tires, exhaust and maybe some rockers I can get some good time slips.
The TH350 is a 3 speed. The above time slip I shifted at about 5000.

Re: fastest 350 TPI

yeah 2.0 60 foot for 3.73 gears/slicks and 2500 stall is horrible

With TH350, you can get away with 3000 stall for that setup. 3.73 gears are good enough, especially with 26-28" tires.

Either way you need to get that car off the line faster. I assume it isnt spinning? how much timing do you run just off idle through 3500 rpm? Look at your WOT timing and bring max timing in at 3000 rpms. Ramp up to 3000 rpm from low rpm fairly quickly. Should boost your torque

It is not spinning as far as I can tell. At the moment I don't have any way to look at my numbers as far as tuning goes. I have been emailing a guy about some equipment to tune and burn with all afternoon. Sounds like a decent deal.

Actually, I think getting some exhaust on it will give me some of my low-end torque back and get me off the line better.

Re: fastest 350 TPI

slp are good runners, LOADS of room for porting and/or siameesing. i cant really comment on the other brands. slp runners are somewhat heavier than stock runners and it seems ive lost just a bit of low end torque but gained a bit of upper rpm bhp. my stock intake is really choking me at the moment, if you get runners i think its best to save and get the intake at the same time.

May years ago when I still ran the long tube set-up this was my combinatio and ET.

355, 10.25 CR, ZZ-9 cam, 195 Trick flow heads, 1.75 mac headers and cat back, TPIS base and large tube runners, custom tune, 2300 stall.

Best ET was 12.69 at 107 MPH noncorrected.

That's pretty amazing! I'm looking at a similiar build - 355, L98 ported heads, 1.6 CHP roller rockers, March Pulleys, TPIS base, eddlebrock tes headers, msd igntion, 3.42 gears, 2000 stall corvette tranny, K&N filters.

I'm switching from a 305 to a 350 and am wondering what the best cam and runners will be for a decent quality idle and good track time.

SLP, Edlebrock, ASM, Accell? Must be siameesed and flow great!

zz9, zz4, hotcam, comp cam, roller or mechanical.

Just want to do it right and get a 13.0 or better car.

Re: fastest 350 TPI

my car ran 9.24 @ 75.05 mph 1/8 mile

in my city don't have 1/4 mile track near only 2 1/8mile tracks

best 60ft 2.13 with 235/55/r16 tires

stock 350 TPI , MSD coil, K&N air filters, no smog pump, short headers, 3" exhaust pipe, forzaflow muffler, no cat, 700R4 with stock converter, b&m Shift kit, stock 3.23 rear end gears

Re: fastest 350 TPI

Update: Uncorrected my car has ran a 12.09@113.11mph since the first post. That was with a DA of around 3500 ft.

Since the times I just posted I have added 13 cubic inches and now fall out of the OP requirements cubic inch wise but expect the car to be in the deep 11's.
