Help!! TPI fuel delivery issues
Help!! TPI fuel delivery issues
i just finished up with my LO3 TO L98 swap, and BOOM! cranks over and fires up absolutely perfect first try. runs a bit rich, but its alright for now. after i let it idle for 5 minutes, i turn it off and try and start it about 5 seconds later, but its completely flooded. i pulled a plug and it was fuel fouled like crazy. i come back the next day and it fires over perfect again, and does the exact same thing. its almost like fuel is getting past the injectors when the car is off. could the injectors be leaking or maybe could the fuel pressure regulator be acting up? i just want to get my car back home for now, and i dont even know where to start. has anybody had similar problems?

It sounds like you have a higher lb injectors, or leaky ones. I relpaced mine due to 2 leaky injectors. Replaced them all, because after getting the plenum removed, it was just better getting them all replaced rather than 2 months later doing it all over again.

yeah good call. a guy i know is selling his 19lb accel injectors from his 5liter mustang, and they are like new still. He only wants 100 bucks so i think ill go for it. do you know if these will work decent on a 350tpi setup?

Re: Help!! TPI fuel delivery issues
I guess Accel had some bad batches of injectors, and some of the members here swayed me away from them. I ended up buying a remanufactured set of Ford 19lb injectors for 140.00 on Ebay. My L98 350 purrs like a kitten now, and passed emissions with flying colors.
Re: Help!! TPI fuel delivery issues
haha yeah kinda late. i bought those accel injectors today. they are a few months old and have barely been used at all, maybe like 2 hours of run time. i paid 100 bucks, and he bought them for 362, and i even have the receipt. the P/N is 150119. i hope these fix my problems...

Re: Help!! TPI fuel delivery issues
the L98 used 22 LB injectors, those 19 lb ones might be a little small since the PROM is programed for 22 LB, unless Accel rates theirs like Ford does.
There are faily easy tests to see if the injectors are leaking. Better to diagnose the problem rather than just throw parts at it and hope.
Also pull the vacuum hose of the pressure regulator and check for gas... check the plenum as well. That would indicate it was leaking and needing replacement.

Re: Help!! TPI fuel delivery issues
alright, well i crossed my fingers and it worked. the new injectors solved all my problems. idles perfectly, doesnt flood, starts every time. im still having one problem though. if i give it gas, it falls flat on its face, unless i progressively increase the throttle slowly. it also backfires through the intake. after about 2500 rpm there is no hesitation. just from an idle.im thinking that its possible the tps? anyone have any input?

Re: Help!! TPI fuel delivery issues
Test the TPS I had the same problem and that solved it. All I did was start the car and then grab just the TPS sensor and twist the metal arm on just the TPS and my engine didnt even react knew instantly that it was my problem. If it bogs or floods than the tps is at least working. If you have an ohm meter than you can test it yourself and make dang sure
good luck

Re: Help!! TPI fuel delivery issues
had kinda the same problem ..
but whenever my car bogs down during acceleration .. i find a vacuum line disconnected ..
i'd test the tps .. check your vacuum lines .. and then make sure your timing and fuel pressure is good ..
i had a "pop" through the intake and it turned out to be too lean when i revved it ..
once you make sure its all good .. and it still pops .. try driving it untill it warms up .. then let the computer adjust to get the right fuel mixture .. i think that is what mine did b/c the pop went away after a few miles of driving ..
EDIT:
actually .. after looking at your last post again .. looks like your injectors are too small ..
even turned all the way up you can only get around 20.5 pounds out of the 19 pound injectors .. and the stockers are supposed to be 22 pounds .. so when its idling, itll get enough fuel .. but when you rev it, your not getting enough fuel and your getting a lean "pop" through the intake ..
try swapping to 22 pound or higher if you got mods ..
hope that helps

painless sells a tpi wiring harness
summit sells it for $367
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
i would think buying a new one would be easier than trying to get a used one with brittle connectors ..
but anything else you should be able to get at a pull apart yard .. or if you want new, you can find almost everything for these cars

Re: Help!! TPI fuel delivery issues
yeah it was the tps. i fixed it a few days ago and finally got it running decent. for some reason the idle decided to drop 400 rpm today, and it was stalling out at like every light. When the car is cold it runs like ^(#%* aswell. as soon as it hits about 1/3 on the temp gauge (stock gauge) it starts running better. when its warm it HAULS. runs flawlessly. its even hard to start it in the morning. it runs for like 5 seconds and dies. im gonna freeak out like a ninja if i dont get it running decent soon.
