Ram Air Hood Clearance for my Custom Runners

Im building a set of custom siamesed runners from 4 3" U bends (aluminum). The problem is the radius isnt as tight as on the stock tubes. To mount them how i want to, I will need to raise the upper plenum an 1 or 1.5 inches. Will this clear my ram air hood? The engine isnt in my car yet as i am building it still and want to build it before i put it in. How much clearance is there between a stock hood and the top of the plenum. Does anyone think ill have a problem raising the plenum an inch? How much room do u think i can go up with my fiberglass Ram Air II hood? Thanks alot guys! - Ray

Re: Ram Air Hood Clearance for my Custom Runners

i have the ram air II hood on my 87 formula 350TPI and i believe it gives 2" extra clearance.... the hood is thicker than stock tho. but its a 2" cowl so that would be the diff. i could test it with sum puddy etc if u want over the stock TPI height... but ihave SLP runners and they are shorter than stock

Wow. Thats awesome. I would be infinitely greatful if u did. My whole engine build is revolving around this bit of info and id hate to do all this work and not be able to close my freshly painted hood. i hear the throttle body is the area thats the closest. Thanks again man!

Re: Ram Air Hood Clearance for my Custom Runners

yea i'll do that prob by the weekend. its hard for me with work and class. yea its the throttle body/front of plenum thats the highest point... but usually its the screw/ribbed rubber boot that connects the TB to the intake tube or MAF.... the stock TPI has a downward angle where the TB mounts. the HSR doesnt and thats the prob with that intake and usually why it doenst fit. since urs is still gone be a TPI im not sure wats gona happen. if u raise it the same all the way around then the TB wont be the highest point. with raising it an inch i kno you wont have a problem. goin 1.5-2" and u would need a measurement.

also depends on what engine mount bushings u use.... stockers are rubber but if u go poly its gona raise the motor 1/2" over stock.
