My EGR solenoid is not bolted down. It just hangs near the distributor of my 86 IROC. Where does it get bolted to? I couldn't locate any intuitive place for it to go.

 

There is a bracket that mounts to the 2 rear intake bolts, and it bolts to that.

 

Ahh, that explains why I see nowhere for it to bolt. My bracket is missing. Do you know if it needs to be grounded to operate properly?

Nope, the ground is one of the wires that hooks up to it.

 

I just realized the same thing on mine. I'll just use a couple of zip ties to secure it to the ecm harness just to be safe.
