Just stick on a K&N cone-type filter directly on to your TB. Yeah, yeah, I know, some will tell you "Dude, you're sucking up hot air from all over your engine bay". It's logical, given.
My logic suggests that w/a filter directly on your TB, you are getting air from 360 degrees, right into your "air-hole".Same reason some people run their cars with an open TB, at the track. A cold air-kit might make you think that your getting denser air, but remember that the air has to go through a series of bends, twists and corners. If a TB mounted Air-Foil eliminates air turbulance, how much turbulance do you think a cold air kit creates?
Just my opinion(based on experience)
Nuff said.

The SLP is a good system and worth the money.
I am using a modified Random Technology ramair set up but I don't think they sell it anymore. The cone K&N will not work for you unless you want to convert to SD, but I don't think its worth a crap anyway I have run one and it did nothing.

I have an SLP cold air kit. It is a high quality kit that knocked 1 to 2 tenths off my quarter miles times when compared to the stock air cleaner design.

I can see the possibilty for the SLP kist improving the air flow on a Firebird, but it makes no sense to me on a Camaro.
The Camaro airbox already takes air in from in front of the radiator, and a few simple modifications and you have open air cleaner elements, and "ram air"

Someone please point out the flaw in my logic if there is one.

I thought 89s had MAPs.I know the pontiacs switched to SD system a year or two ahead of the Irocs.
I can't picture an 89 GTA w/a MAF. I could be wrong, though.

Well picture it.... because that's what the 89's have.... both Camaros and Birds.... they both went to SD in 1990.

When installing the cold air box on a MAF Formula TPI, where does the charcoal cannister go? Does it need to be relocated? Also, does the stock bellows between the airbox and MAF work or will I have to buy the SLP part?

Thanks!

The cannister get relocated from the passenger to drivers side. It sits on the frame rail kinda wedged between the battery and the radiator. The stock bellows will work fine. The only difference is that the SLP bellows has a sheet metal air seperator pop riveted in the middle of the air path.

Jay,
The SLP kit is still a good idea for the Camaro. They choose to draw air from two areas of cold air one under each side of the front bumper cover this is a clean install and requires no cutting of the air dam. The only way to get cold forced air for the center location is to cut the baffle cut the dam and run tube from behind the fog light area (you can do this your self or get a kit like the Random Technology that does the same thing). They both work fine and the only advantage to the SLP is that you retain full flow of air on you radiator.

For your own info... Firebirds and Camaros went through the SAME CHANGES, powertrain wise, every year. Why ? Because they're basically the same car! lol
