tpi intakes

I am curently running a 96 marine motor in my camaro with a carb on it. I just currently picked up a tpi setup, with the computer, harness, intake, fuel lines, distrib, the whole 9 yards for 250 bucks. The question is since the tpi is off an 86 iroc, and my motor is a 96 with the centerbolt heads, could I used my freinds tpi manifold of his 91z thats for speed density or not?

Yes, the centerbolt heads should have the newer intake bolt pattern, and the 86 intake will have the older pattern. You'll need the 91 intake or any aftermarket intake for it to bolt up.

yes, but will there be any different sensors or things that wont match cause the setup i am using is mass air and the intake is speed density

mac,
the use of a pre 87 manifold onlt means the
intake will have to machined to properly
bolt to your cylinder heads. mainly the
four inner intake bolts. using your friends 91 manifold
means no machine work.
90-92 camaros used a speed density system to
operate the injection system. (MAP sensor)
84-89 camaros used a mass air flow system to
operate the injection system. (MAF sensor)
the easiest to install and operate is the speed
density system.
both use the same sensors with the exception:
MAF sensor for the mass air flow vs
MAP sensor for the speed density.
if you try to use the MAP or MAF, harness and sensors
you will need a chip that has the VATS removed
so the vehicle will start.
also youll need to change fuel pump to deliver
the right pressure for the injectors.
you will have to run a return line to the tank
for the unused fuel. most purchse these lines
from a salvage yard.. $20-30.
hope this helps...

Just a thought... you could buy the Accel/LPE intake (its over $500) and that has intake bolt patterns for both style heads, and that way you get a high performance intake, again, just a suggestion.

all that means is that the intake bolt holes are oval. Get to grinding on the one you have if you need to. that's it. No $500, no odd intakes.

Its more than just oval holes- Aftermarket manifolds have two angles machined into them so that the bolt will sit flat on either type of head.
On a stock manifold, it would take additional machining to accomplish this.
I'm not sure if this would lead to sealing problems cause the bolt is off a little.

no I wish the heads were vortec, maybe then the motor would have alot higher compression, 96 was the last year they didnt use the vortecs on the marine motors. Maybe I can just use the old style intake and pick-up some aftermarket older style heads or pick up a stock set from the bone yard and make them higher compression, cause this motor isnt even 9 to 1
