Another short Q about roller rockers.

Hey guys. I am going to upgrade to 1.6 roller rockers. I wasn't even thinking about the ECM. Would bigger rockers confuse it? Will I need a chip? Thanks.

I have a 91 Z (happens to be a 1LE as well)I put 1.6's on mine plus I had a cam put in too and it ran fine.You could diffentlly benifit from a new custom chip but you shouldn't have any problem

Hmm, I'm going to try my 24lb injectors and 1.6 rockers with no chip. I'm not brave enough to try a cam yet though. It is my everyday driver.

Also is this a good tool to use?

FWIW if you put those 24# lb injectors in you find yoor gonna be running rich unless you get some chip programming done.Domn't know if you have ever visited the DIY PROM
board.But there is a lot of info on there about these kinds of modes.I just started doing my own chips a few weeks ago.After I installed my new setup.see sig below.Now would be the time to learn when your are only adding 1 or 2 things at a time.don't do like I did and change everything at once and try to learn. but anyway there is a simple adjustment in the prom to accomadate the larger injectors.But you will most likely be running rich.

Chief is right about those injectors! Do the RRs' first, along with some other air flow stuff before you even worry about those 24# injectors!!

Thanks guys. I thought it would run too rich, but in another thread some people said to try it and see how it runs, also that it should be okay. I don't know if they realized I have speed density though. I thought upgraing the rockers would have a bigger effect on the ECM. I have read traxion's intro and will probably read it a few more times before I attempt any prom burning. Anybody use that rocker stud removing tool I posted above?

There shouldn't be any reason for a stud removal tool.If you go with the correct rockers like I said they are a direct replacement.

No stud removal? They are Crane stamped 1.6 rollers, and are not self-aligning. From everything I've read, I need heat-treated pushrods and guideplates along with srew in studs.

I too was under the same impression at first.In fact I even got a set of non-self aling 1st.Only to return them and get the self alining.I got the Crane Gold racing not sure of the ones your talking about.but yes a nonself alining one would require what you mentioned plus getting the heads machined for the screw in studs all of this $$$.What is the price on the ones you are refering to.the Gold racing self aling (P/N 270-10758-16) are $300 bucks, but 30min or so and they are on.No guide plate,no hardened pushrods,no machining nothing off with the old on with the new.Those stamped one maybe less $$ but alot of work.Some one stop me if I'm wrong please.
