holley afpr...installation q's

Okay, I just received my AFPR from holley and it came w/o instructions. This isn't good since I've NEVER done this before...I know how to get to it, just remove the plenum as I did when I ported it, but is there like a list of steps to do before installing? What about fuel, when I take the old one out will fuel leak? Also, Holley uses a spring to retain constant psi, where do I do this. They really should put installation instructions with the package...sheesh.

I just put my Holley in a little while ago. I have the directions and I will type them off to you.

1. Releave the pressure in the fuel lines. Take gas cap off, depress schrader valve, remove fuel pump fuse and turn key forward to completely releave fuel pressure.

2. It says disconnect battery but I didnt and I am typing this to you so do what you want.

3. Remove vaccum lines and misc wires on plenum. Like you said the same way as when you ported it.

4. Ok here it says to remove bolts so refer to #3

5. To remove the regulator you will need a t-10 torx drive with a hole in the center of the bit. There are tiny metal nipples in the torx screws that are on the regulator so like I said you will need the center punched out or if you really dont care about those nipples just use a normal t-10 bit. I did and I have no problems.

6. Remove regulator cover, regulator spring, and diaphragm.

7. Take top off of regulator. Place washer in regulator cover, then the spring, and finally the diaphragm. Make sure the diaphragm is hugging the spring to have it seated properly.

8. Put regulator on the base and make sure the holes align. Tighten the assembly down.

9. Put regulator top back on the assembly and losely tighten it down.

10. Put everything back together.

11. Turn key to on position and look for fuel leaks. If there are none then take the vaccum line off of the AFPR, put the fuel guage on schrader valve, start the car and turn the cap to desired PSI.

That is everything on the instructions. A few things that I noticed were I needed a little extension for the vaccum line going to the AFPR because the stock one was a little short. Also to the removing the fuel fuse you really dont need to do that I didnt and I only had a little gas leak out and I quickly mopped it up and that was that. Those were the only problems I had just make sure that all of the screws are tight mine were not and worked loose and I had a little gas leak. Good luck any other questions just ask.

Hey no big deal what so ever. I like helping people out when they are having troubles. Now if people use this board right they can do a search and get all the instructions they need.

Just wanted to add to what Drkhrse89 said...before you take apart anything, note the fuel pressure reading before hand to establish a baseline. Then when you install your adjustable one, you have a good starting point to go back to when you adjust fuel pressure in case it runs too rich.

Be VERY careful not to cross thread the torx bolts in the regulator. I did and mine leaks. Just be careful.

Yea I would also like to back up IROCZZ3. I was running way rich at 42 psi and I had to turn it down to almost stock at 36 psi. I also had a pc hooked up to show me that 36 would be the best number for my engine to run at. So people saying every engine will gain HP at 47 psi is full of crap I was running like **** and had to kick it way down to run right. So if you have access to one hook up a pc to it and tune it that way.
