Is this a good 383 setup?
Was reading the past issue of Chevy High performance...they had a 383 pushing 454HP called the hot tamale mouse....469 lb-ft tq at 4000rpm....and 454hp at 6000 rpm. How would the setup below do as a daily driver and street/strip car??
AS&M SS runners (good...or can I go with SLP....Im set on AS&M...but if I really dont need them....)
Ported plenum
Ported Edelbrock manifold
54MM TB
1 3/4" SLP Headers with dual cats and 3" exhaust system
350 bored .03" over
3.75" crank (should I get a forged crank?)
Forged SCAT rods
Forged Flat top Pistons
TFS 23-degree aluminum heads from summit
LT4 Hot cam
1.6 rockers
What stall converter? Will be running a beefed up 700r4....3.42 posi rear.
Would this give me similar results?? Should I go with different heads? My ultimate goals are to run 12s in the quarter....not really have to rev past 6000-6500rpm....pass emmisons...and get decent (as possible) gas mileage. The engine in the magazine actually used 1 5/8" headers...something to consider? And im thinking if I can keep my engine under 6000rpm...it'll keep me from having to get a forged crank...which will save me a couple hundred....would I really need it? I MAY run a 100hp shot of NOS...but thats about it.

Chevy High Performance got those numbers using a carb. I don't think your results will be as high with a ported TPI setup. I would suggest using a Superram or a Miniram if you want to stay fuel injected.
As for the converter, try a Yank, Pro Torque or Vigilante around 2800-3200 stall.
