Vortec Tpi
Hey fellas,
I didn't see this posted anywhere else. I just received this reply to an email I sent to SDPC. I asked where they stood on these things:
The Vortec TPI manifold is about 3-four weeks away. They are currently in production!
We tested with stock runners, stock throttle body, stock mass air flow sensor and stock computer and chip. the numbers are as follows.
Stock L98 engine 250 hp
L98 with Vortec heads and TPI Intake - 300 hp
ZZ4 cam and 1.6 rockers on the intake side - 335hp
Hot Cam Kit - 375hp
We tried the Edelbrock runners, throttle body and E-Tec heads (200cc) with minimal gains.
The gains seem too good to be true. A factory long runner setup with 375 horses. If they ever deliver it, it would be awesome. Time will tell I guess.

I thought that project was canned. I would like to see them go through with it though.

HAHAHA!!!
2 months ago it was 3-4 weeks until release. And I also find it hard to believe that a factory TPI setup that makes 375 HP with a hotcam and vortec setup will not benefit from runners and plenum/TB mods. I bet the plenum wasn't even ported and it ran a factory 48mm TB and no airfoil and a factory unmodded MAF sensor(if they ran one). I don't believe that at all...I'll believe it when I see it. They forget the majority of TPI poeple on this board have already done those intake mods before they consider heads, cam and lower intake. We'll see...in the meantime, I still have a set of ported Vortec heads in my garage, waiting for a seperate engine buildup, probably for a truck or another F-body.

I can't imagine the 375 hp being realistic. I guess it is nice to dream, though.

I plugged in the numbers on the ol Desktop Dyno for my SLP cam which is almost identical to the LT4 Hot cam and it came out 376 HP @5,000 rpm, and 452 ft-lb torque @3500 rpm.

I dont see why 375 HP makes you guys surprised. My engine made 317 HP to the wheels, and if you add the 15% drivetrain loss back in, thats about 370 HP at the flywheel. I've got a HOT cam, TPIS intake/runners/TB, ported Corvette L98 heads, and SLP 1 3/4" headers.
I'm glad this intake is finally going to be released.

375 hp suprised me because it was using stock runners, plenum, MAF, and a factory ecm with a stock chip. That just seems like a lot to me.

Funny, on their own website they claim the same numbers as the first post says, but,....
the website says only 360 hp with the Hot cam kit.
Even this seems high if they used oem runners(all their pictures show them using edlbrock runners) and a stock chip(iffy considering the huge difference in airflow between a stock tpi and one that supposedly makes 360 hp).
Call me a 'doubting Thomas' but SDPC hasn't done a lot to gain trust when it comes to this manifold.

On that same page I just saw a picture of there 375/360 horse motor. It has headers, electric water pump, and a msd ignition. Those are standard fair in a nice street motor, but I think they certainly had something to do with their numbers. Still nice to know that you can get those numbers on a iron headed motor with a streetable compression and long runners.
