what cam?

im trying to build a 383 on some what of a budget. i have all of the TPI stuff now and am going to port the hell out of it. my bigest concern are the heads. Can i get aways with getting the stock L98 heads ported and re-machined? i would love AFRs but those are WAY too expensive. anyways with a fully ported TPI and ported L98 heads what would be a good cam? i wana pretty mild one... im gonna try to get this car to pass as a stock 305 those mustangs will never know what hit em!

I like the Hot cam as far as heads go you could port and polish your stock heads your self and pay to have a 3 angle valve job done to them. But if your planing on paying some one to do the porting you may as well look for new heads by the time you have the valve job done probly 150 having them cut for larger springs for the cam 75 plus at least 100+ for porting you could have bought a good set of heads. I would atleas try to find a set of used vet heads they usaly go for 350-500 a set then port them your self the vortec heads wouldnt be bad but then you have to modify your base or buy that sdpc base and that thing is not cheap. One last thing you have to decide on compretion the stock 305 heads are 58 cc the vet heads are 58 cc that will raise the compretion a lot may need to do to a stock 350 tpi head not positive on the camber size but I think it is I think 64cc you can probly get those for almost nothing at a salvage yard.
