Latest Timeslips. Critiques Welcome
Hey guys, here's my slips from today at Atco. I'll let you know the mods and my racing experience first, because usually I see someone first post their times, and then everybody needs that info anyway
305 TPI, T5, only mods besides a tuneup are the SLP cold airbox and airfoil. This was my third time out racing. Before today my best time was 15.5 @ 91 ...
I've been trying to pinpoint what actually needs work since I'm very new to drag racing. I've been thinking that I need to grip more off the line, and ALSO stop the car from stuttering off the line. (That's the reason for all the notes on the bottom)
So:
1- does this look like a decent time for my mods listed?
2- since I believe the burnouts have helped my grip considerably, any advice on launching so as not to stall?

Your 60's leave something to be desired. My 86 TPI/A4 gets 2.06-2.08 all day long. Assuming we cut the same light I've got 3 tenths on you in just 60 feet. Your slow times compared to higher MPH show just how much you are spining on takeoff.
Practice, again, again, etc.

I'm no expert but your 60ft times suck. If you can't get out of the hole, your sunk. How hard are you on the clutch when you launch? I have a 92 Z28 convt with a 5spd and centerforce clutch. On a good sticky track I could wrap it up to about 2500/3000 grand and not dump it, but let it out real fast, while depressing the gas the rest of the way to the floor. This would cause minimal slippage, almost no wheel spin and about a 2.0 60ft on 235 Eagle GA tires.

You're right, Rob, definitely suck. What you suggested sounds good, I've been thinking about trying that next time.
I also just realized this is MOSTLY more appropriate for the drag board, BUT, I'd also like to know if (besides maybe another tenth in 1/4 time, and 1 or 2 mph) ... if my car is performing how it should given my mod(s). So anyone got an opinion in that vein to keep this more TPI related?

well #1 your first problem is you ran at Atco
i grew up like 15 minutes from there...i'm there a lot(well not this past summer
). Your 60' times are killing you..partly due to Atco's butter like track surface..they say one tenth in the 60' is good for 2 tenths overall..so with that said you will be in the 14's no problem with a good launch...see the thing about atco is you HAVE to go through the water traps...which sucks on street tires...best thing to do is go through the water slow...goose it a few times to clean em off...then pull up to the line...as far as launching a 5speed u are asking the wrong person...i'm an automatic guy

If you "must" go through the water at Atco, I'd say that it would be better to really heat them after pulling out of the water box so that you can create enough heat to dissipate the water on the tires. On radials, I prefer to not go through the water. I spin the radials about 10-12 feet after going around the water - just to clean them off. But, your 60 fts. are lacking. I'd say start with the basics, and attend to the suspension. You are extremely close to having a solid 14 second car.

Thanks 86Iroc and FlyGTA, I'll spend one more Saturday (at least) at Etown, where I want to break into the 14s, If I can do that by November, it'd be great progress for my first season of drag-racing.
And thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I now know what I have to 'fix'. I'll prolly have some good news by the end of October at latest

Jim, you need to dry those tires off for sure. Try to not hammer it on launch too. Of course some BFGs out back would be great for Atco.
When you come to Raceway Park, look for a white '88 Vette with "65Z01" uneder the hi-brake light (I don't race the IROC anymore) and say HI.

Best Times:
60'=1.92sec, 1/4mi=14.42sec @93.99mph in 65deg temp

I'll def look for ya' next time i'm up there, Jim. I don't think I'm going to Atco again to race (30 bucks yesterday to race
)
I have an extra pair of 15" rims that are slated to be wrapped in drag radials for the next season, hopefully all of us in FBS will benefit from

Pretty consistant mph. Reaction times all suck. Take all you want off your 60' times but with those rt's you have lost before you get 60 feet down the track. If you ain't moving when the light goes green, you lose.

No one said they were bracket racing. But we have done it before. I was giving the "other car (stang!)" about 2 cars when I was racing the Civic on a weekly basis.
All in fun, and at the track!

here's my best slip from last summer.
Keep in mind that I had an LG4 305 5 speed with a slipping clutch that day.
