ZZ4 camaro conversion w/TPI??

Hi everyone, maybe next years plan will be to get the ZZ4 in my 86IROC 305TPI. Would It be easier for me to just buy the crate motor by itself or buy the camaro conversion package. But do I have to change over to a carb or can I keep my TPI setup?? How many more parts would I have to buy, i.e. chip, ECM?? Sorry for the mass amounts of questions at once!

Oh also what oil do you guys run in your engines 305's 350's? I am thinking about going synthetic, maybe Mobil 1? Thanks for any advice!

Do a search on this board for ZZ4, you'll find a lot of info from several people who have put TPI on a ZZ4 engine, myself included.

Most of us use Mobil 1 10w-30 synthetic oil.

I've been using Mobil One 10W30 or 5W30 in my ZZ4TPI
You will need an intake that bolts to older style heads. The aftermarket ones fit both style heads. Any machine shop can grind a stock one cheap.
I swapped my valve covers over (ZZ4 valve covers are both the same and the gromet holes are wrong for a TPI.
The water pump must go for a reverse flow.
I put my small HEI distributor in and put the large HEI that came with the ZZ4 in my 71 Impala.
My engine oil cooler (KC4) would not clear the larger harmonic balancer on the ZZ4 (however you don't need one if you use Mobil One, according to GM).
Everything else was a breeze. The passenger side head is missing one bolt hole for the serpentine belt set up, but there are plenty mounting points, I've had no problems.
