Dumb unheard of question for TPI. If ur rebuild ur TPI please read inside!

im probably gonna get laughed at for this but id like to be sure on what im doing. I have the whole TPI dissasembled and i brought a complete FELPRO gasket set, ie. oilpangasket, intake, runner, throttlebodie, headergasket and so on. My question is this, can anyone of u's possible name which gaskets do i need to use silicone sealant on, i heard u dont have to use any silicon sealant on gaskets that are made of rubber is this true?? My most basic question is which gaskets need Silicon,RTV or whatever sealant?????????????? thanx

Well, when you put the intake base on the block, don't use the rubber gaskets that go on the front and back of the intake, use the RTV on those areas, otherwise you have a higher chance of getting an oil leak.

Except for the above mentioned gasket, put all gaskets on dry.

You stretch them to fit in the rails in the valve covers, and THEN put the covers on the heads. There should be a rail in the valve covers that holds the gaskets on.

The only dumb question is the one unasked. No silicone except for the end-gasket area on the intake manifold base to block. Be sure to use sensor safe silicone or the 02 sensor can fail.

I use a small amount of gasket glue to hold the gaskets to the heads. Be sure to torque the base down in the proper sequence
1st step - slight snug
2nd step - to 35 lb/ft.

The order on the TPI engine is different than a carb manifold for some reason. (this is the order looking at it from above)

Passenger

F 8 7 9 10 11 12
R
O
N
T 2 1 3 4 5 6

Drivers

Install the left runners to the base and torque from the center out to 25 lb ft. Install the right runner to base (loose bolts) Then the plenum to both runners (loose bolts) Torque the bolts in the following order:

1. right runner to base from center out
2. Left plenum to runner from the center out
3. right plenum to runner from the center out

do all to 25 lb ft.

Good Luck
