350 TPI Performance Help

I have an '89 Iroc with a 350 TPI in it. I have changed the plugs, the distributor is an OEM replacement, the wires are ACCEL 8.8mm, the injectors are ACCEL 21lb an hr, with an ACCEL cap and Rotor and I am still having an issue with the performance of the car. The only thing that I can think of is that plugs may be wrong for the car. I installed ACCEL header plugs seeing as I have Edelbrock headers on the car. The plugs are shorter than the AC Delco recommended plugs, so I am thinking that they are disapating the heat from too short. What are some opinions?

Also, when I was timing the car after replacing the distributor, I noticed that the car would miss and back fire when timing it while jumping the ALDL like recommended by the Chilton's book. If I timed the car by not jumping the ALDL the car runs a lot better. Thanks for any ideas.

Re: 350 TPI Performance Help

ALDL adds 10 degrees of timing. Disconnect the est wire, then set the timing.

single wire connector. black/tan

on your 89 it should be located onthe passenger side behind the strut tower near the a/c canister if you have a/c. You will see tho, cant miss it

No stupid questions.....well....sometimes, but not yours.

On my 89, it was with the main harness on the firewall (sort of) between the blower box and the distributor.

Re: 350 TPI Performance Help

thats generally the location, its a wire that comes off the main harness where the harness comes out of the firewall in the passenger side back corner.

Re: 350 TPI Performance Help

k, thanks for the info, I changed the plugs out today and discovered that one of my wires was fouled out by my header, I changed it out and the car is running a hundred times better. I still have not disconnected the EST yet, but I will ASAP. Thank you again.

disconnect est, and reset the base timing to 6-8 degrees, reconnect est, and that car should run great
