2 bolt or 4 bolt??

This might be a stupid question but are the 350 engines in an iroc 2 bolt or 4 bolt main? What about the engines in newer Z28s?

And to further explain this issue... All Corvettes had 4 bolt main blocks. That's okay though, MY Fbody has a 4 bolt main block in it now. lol

Nomar116 is correct, ALL L98s (except factory flukes) had 2 bolt mains including the ones used on Vettes.

wrong. the only L98 vette to have a 4 bolt main was the B2K callaway twin turbo vette. LT1 is a different story. all LT1 vette motors are 4 bolt main caps, while f-body LT1s use a 2 bolt main caps.

and your comment about the c*cky vette owner was uncalled for. just because you see someone with a vette doesnt mean they are a *****.

SDPC2000 H.O. TPI Crate Engine

1989 Chevy Corvette L98 A4 Black/Black Coupe
Stock 95k miles
3.07:1 Gears

the vette is faster, i guess due to wieght and gearing.

That is not true my 4-bolt block came out of a 90 regular old run of the mill vette. For some reason some of the vettes came with the 4-bolt and some came with 2-bolts.I don't know why they did this.

So if you where on a budget and wanted to rebuild with a bullet proof bottom is it good to us a truck block (4-bolt).

I know if money was not a prob it would be a short block ZZ4, but money is tight so would a truck block with the usuall treatment to it when rebuilding be just as good?

What makes the ZZ4 that much better???

actually, the twin turbo callaway block is a worked over 4 bolt truck block. thats odd if your stock engine is a 4 bolt block, maybe at some point they were running low on blocks at the vette plant and used some 4 bolt blocks from somewhere else. kinda strange. i asked a guy at SDPC2000 and he said that all stock L98s are two bolts.

I used a Vortec truck ('97) 4-bolt block on my rebuild and used it's nodular iron crankshaft as well. Vortec truck blocks are very nice and are the exact same casting as a ZZ4 block. The ZZ4 is really a Vortec shortblock with a steel crank, different rings, Hyp. pistons, and PM rods. The actual blocks are identical. So unless you really want the internals that are in a ZZ4 shortblock, it would make sense to use a truck block and get your own (better) internals. I am also pretty sure that the later TBI truck 4-bolt blocks are the same as the Vortec blocks if they are mid-'89 and newer (roller cam).

Good Luck
