I'm looking for and would really like to have an IROC with a 5sp and a 350... Of course they didn't make that so, I was thinking of buying a 305/5sp and put in a 350.

But my question is, could I just transfer all the intake stuff over to the 350?

Yes, the intakes are entirely the same. The only difference is the injectors, knock sensor and memcal (chip.)

- Definitely prototypes, high powered mutants of some kind. Too weird to live, too cool to die

My friend dropped a 350 into his 5-speed TA and the tranney couldn't handle the power and it blew-up. It could have just been his car it was it kinda crappy shape, someone who frequently posts on this board has a 5-speed 350 and it is very fast. His name escapes me now but maybe he could help.

JR, are you referring to me? There's also Tim Burgess with a 305 5-speed faster than me.

To back up what Ed Maher said, yes, the TPI hardware is identical on a 305 and a 350. The differences are the injectors (19lbs on a 305 and 22lbs on a 350), the knock sensor, the chip, and possibly the EGR valve too. Replacing a 305 with a 350 is pretty much straight foward, there arent any special circumstances you need to know.

About the 5-speed not being able to handle the power, its a matter of luck. Some people's trans have lasted forever, others break right away. I had to replace 2nd and 3rd gear and synchros so far, but I've had no problems with it in the last 6 months.

The only differences are the injectors, calpak & knock sensor. The 305 injectors can be used at a higher fuel pressure on the 350.

Why not instead get a 350 car and put a 6 speed in it. You wont have to worry about a T5 blowing up the first time you get good traction.

Well, because it seems like a general pain in the A$$ to make an automatic car = a manual.... clutch linkage and all (unless there's some kit that I don't know about)

not only differences in chip, injectors, but
the intakes from 85-86 had the early intake
(90 pattern) and the 87-92 (72 degree) had the steeper inner bolt pattern.
