Would a TPI setup function on a non-Camaro?

I'm going to be selling my 305 TPI engine from my '86 IROC soon, and my friend is interested in buying it from me. He is looking at a '95 Chevy S-10 and would like to put it in there if he gets the truck. Would the TPI fuel injection even function, seeing as how it isn't a Camaro? If not, is there a way around this?

Lots of people have put TPI setups into non-camaros. As long as you have the computer and wiring the same, it'll work just fine.

Wouldn't the Camaro computer conflict with the computer in the '95 S-10? I thought that all "newer" cars, no matter what the engine, had onboard computers for the engine and other vehicle functions.

You remove the truck's computer and use the TPI computer only. If the truck has an electronic transmission (4L60E) you'll need another computer to control that, too, or replace it with a regular 700R4.

Keep in mind if your area has smog checks, putting an older setup into a newer vehicle is prohibited. The last year for TPI is 1992.

I swapped a TPI from a 1986 Camaro in my 1985 S15 Jimmy. Very straight forward. Just use the wiring harness from the camaro. Remove harness from S10. Make adapters where needed (IE. Vehicle Speed sensor).

Why are you getting rid of you TPI? They work really well with a TPI, even a stock TPI.

Mark.

ahhhh ZZ4 TPI works well... a mild port job
on an accell or edelbrock intake, siam tubes
and a 52mm TB work well.. then when you really
want s'more hotcam!!
carbs are fine, but consistancey is key.
true many dont understand EFI, but a couple
of easy reads of articles and most feel carbs
are unreliable. IMHO.
we manufacture an integrator harness for a TPI.
using the OE computer we runa second computer to drive the TPI. for just this purpose.

As far as swapping a 305 TPI into a 95 S-10 piece of cake. I am going to make the assumption that this truck has the 4.3 liter engine. If it does not you will need to replace the transmission to make this swap work and you can use the factory TPI computer. If it does have the 4.3 then if you have a manual you can use the factory TPI computer. If the truck has the 4L60E and the 4.3 then the computer you have is probably service # 16197427. If so then all you need to do is wire up the fuel injectors as if it were port fuel and have someone who is knowledgable and competent write a new prom to incorporate a TPI like calibration.(Basically change from 6 to 8 cylinders and map the fuel and spark.) I am not quite sure why anyone went to the trouble to integrate another computer into the system. To do that correctly you would need to remove the engine code from the factory computer. You also run the risk of a bad computer or connection screwing up the other computer.

Actually, I believe the truck that my friend is looking at has a four-cylinder engine and a manual transmission (obviously, that's the reason he wants my engine ). What all would be involved with that? Also, the truck's tranny has 115,000 miles on it; what is the average lifespan of those types of sticks? I don't know what the model of the transmission is.

Those transmissions will last a long time just not behind a V8. You also have to contend with the fact that the bell housing is different than the V8. You will need a new transmission among other things. The swap will not be easy but is doable.

Just wanted to let you know the outcome of this... he decided that it's going to be too involved for his budget right now. Well, thanks again to everybody for all their help -- I sure learned something.
