Crazy idea, Opinions Please

I switched over from carb to TPI awhile back and plan to keep it. Yet I have a 4" cowl hood that is now basically functionless except for better cooling. I was thinking of building some kind of air cleaner assembly above the TPI that would suck in air from the cowl. I saw a magazine feature where a guy had one on his car. He had a supercharger that was pulling air from up there. He was using a LTI air assembly or something similar. I was thinking of how I could do this.

make a tube go around and have a round K&N near the opening of the cowl. I saw that on a Olds Bravada that had a 383.
