Another injector problem..........
Another injector problem..........
OK, I had 2 stock injectors that were bad so I bought the #23 Accel's and installed them. The car would idle/run like crap and stall at a light. The fuel pump did its thing when the key was turned on. The fuel pressure is set at 48 psi and remains steady. I tested for any codes, none. So I took the Accel's back out (PITA) and bought 2 new stock injectors ($85 a piece) and reinstalled all the stock injectors. Now it's not missing a beat but I'm not satisfied about the new Accel's not working. Any insight out there besides selling the Accels to someone?

I just ordered the same injectors. I hope I don't run into this problem. I was thinking maybe if you set the fuel pressure down that it would help. You would already be getting the extra fuel needed with the bigger injectors. Just guessing.

He didn't mix them. He reinstalled all the stock ones. jeff,
i ran into the similar problem, but we had no
running for our injector replacement. found
out that MSD 26# injector @ 2ohm is too much
injector for a stock ECM setup. stock injector
resistance should be 14ohm cold.. 16-17ohm
hot. the ecm can only take so much direct
that if too direct malfuntions occur.
swaped for some accel 26# and 14ohm worked
like a champ... measure the resistance
in those injectors.

my fault. i just skimmed over it and thought he wrote he replace two bad ones with two new accel injectors. damn and i just ordered some accel injectors, hope they work right. although, 48psi is pretty high. dont know if it would cause that big of a problem though

Did you have an eprom set for the larger injectors? By design, the stock GM eprom is already too rich, plus you are running a high fuel pressure. I have found that even though injectors MAY be rated close to the stock GM (23 vs 22), the injectors often will flow more than GMs rating.
My guess is you were running too rich, and it takes the engine a few minutes of running (and moving) before it will go into closed loop. If you were just letting it idle, then you didn't even hit closed loop and were relying solely on the eprom, which for SD cars are critical.

I've talked to a couple of guys on the board who've had no problems with there #23's, but it could be something I neglected to check/do/or not do. Who knows, I got all winter to figure it out.
I checked the resistance of the Accel's before installation and they were at 14.2ohms(cold) and 16.1 to 16.2(hot).
GLENN, I didn't have the EPROM set for larger injectors. All I have is the Performance Resource Chip and calpac. I tried the stock chip then the Hypertech chip and finally the PR chip, none solved the problem (may need a custom chip burnt). It was running way too rich (could smell the fuel). The thing is I wasn't setting any codes and so it was throwing me off (not hard too do)
.
I'm going to reinstall the Accel's again and dial the fuel pressure down to at least 40 psi and work my way up (testing the drivability with each lb of pressure increase). If that doesn't work then I'll just take them back out and wait until I get the ATI Procharger installed and then try them. Thanks to everyone that replied

Honestly, i really doubt the increased flow would make it run that bad, unless perhaps the ignition is also weak or something else was contributing to it. Reason being, i was running my LB9 @ 56psi for a while, even with the stock chip for a couple weeks before my burner came in. It drove perfectly fine even though it was bottoming the BLMs.
