I do plan on mounting the battery sideways so I can mount the air filter forward.

Shows the DS header (Hooker finally came up w/ a set of emissions legal ones for the G-body w/ L69 cat) I bought these from Jet-Hot.

Yes, I know the air filter placement isn't optimum, but somehow I thought having the car running was more important than taking time to relocate the battery etc.

The first pic is basically the finished product with zero detailing. The ducting was borrowed off a car that sat for a long time, and my car sat for a bit too w/ out a hood on it.

Unless you want to buy a new battery every few months, DO NOT MOUNT THE BATTERY SIDEWAYS. Batteries are mounted in this position to keep the plates in the cells from smacking together upon acceleration and deceleration. Mount your battery in the trunk for $40 bucks, I think Summit sells the kit, and for *** 's sake move your air intake.

So what happens when you turn?
Mount the battery any way it'll work, but you may have to fab some type of fixture to hold the battery and locate it on a tray.

Don't vettes have the batters mounted sideways?
Anyway, I second the relocate kit. I'm going for that myself. I run a 700amp batt in my car, if my headers heat the starter up too much I can't restart. I'm thinking of two 650s in the trunk.

heres another idea, get a hawood hood and make an aircleaner that fits the cowl opening, I did it with mine and got to leave the batt where it is at, if I can get some pics developed for it Ill post them on here.

Or... move the batt to the DS w/ firebird parts
FWIW, it's running very cool (88 'bird alum. 5spd radiator, delco 180 deg. stat) and I have zero hot start problems. headers are Jet-Hot coated, FWIW.

I did jump on the 86 LB9 stuff because I heard the (wrecked) iroc run and the runners weren't all dented etc. 86 to 86 was pretty straightforward; the Helms for Camaro has LG4 & LB9 diagrams right next to each other. Luckily, GM made 2 EFI g-bodies - 85-88 4.3L V6 TBI Monte's, and 84-87 Turbo Regals. I'm using a 4.3 Monte sending unit, but now I need the better baffled EFI tank (got one lined up
)anesthes - won't the longer batt. cable be an issue? Your starter still needs to not be cooked to get it started; I'm afraid you may be chasing the wrong culprit

monte-ss I have several friends w/ the Harwood hood (I attend the Monte Nationals in June) and I really don't want to mess w/ making 'glass fit right and all; plus I like the stock hood. Should hold up to the 100mph driving I do when I trip to Phx or Denver. Don't need the extra room either. Just remove the stupid rubber gasket at the rear of the cowl which helps and roll...

Several GM cars have the battery mounted sideways. Its not a big deal.
