Is 230/236 cam too big for a superrammed 406?

I just ordered my roller 230/236 cam and I'm having second thoughts that maybe its to big. I need to pass emmisions. Heads are 190AFR, ported superram, and Accel DFI.
Anyone running this cam? Thanks

Nope, I don't believe it will, but stranger things have happened.

A 218/224 probably will and a 224/230 just might if everything is "right on", but a 230/236 is a bit too big for the sniffer unless you ordered it on very wide lobe centers, like 114 or 116.

Even with the wide centers I don't think it will pass. The cam grinder should be able to tell you for sure.

Someone may know some tricks that may help though. There's gotta be a workaround.

Jake

That's a pretty stout cam, but should work very well in the 406. Traxion has a 230/245 cam on a 113 LSA in his 350 and was able to pass emissions recently with his dual cats and a little PROM-burning trickery. If you get this cam on a 114 LSA, you'll have no problems passing emissions in your 406. I know guys with 224/230, 224/236, and 230/236 cams in 350 engines that have passed the treadmill test.

I used that cam in my 383 until this year when I went to a solid roller. I had the cam ground on a 112 lsa and 4 degs advance. Last year the car passed an IM 240 emissions test without a problem. The idle was very stable and the motor made good power with that cam.
Your motor has some similarities to mine, cam, AFR190 heads, DFI etc.

I had that cam in my 406 with a mini ram and it worked out good. I dont know if it will pass emissions but I think you can make it work to your advantage using the DFI.

Mine was on a 114 with +4 degrees in it as well.

Mine made 385hp at the rear wheels with the initial tuning. I believe with the refined tuning that was done the rear wheel hp was closer to 390-395hp.

The guy I'm buying the cam from said it would make 450hp easily. So I guess I could use my 24# injectors? Thanks again

I bought HiTech5's cam. It's still sitting in the basement next to about $3K worth of parts.

I'm doing a minirammed 385 with all forged internals, internally balanced. AFR195's (which I have not yet bought) with race porting. EA Pro puts the simulation at 510 HP at 6500 RPM, given a published set of modified AFR flow numbers and a 10.6:1 compression ratio. Torque hits at an estimated 4000 RPM and is predicted at an estimated 430 ft.lbs or so...

I'll be installing on a 110 degree intake centerline.

BTW, How did that solid roller cam work out?

WS6Transam - The Solid Roller is pretty impressive. It has a sharper torque peak than the Hyd Roller and after 5800, the motor flies to 7000rpm. I'm a little concerned with the longevity of the shortblock spinning that much rpm though.
