Does anyone make a header spark plug for aluminum heads?

I can't seem to find any header (shorty) plugs for aluminum heads. Does anyone have a part#? I am having "issues" with my Edelbrock RPM's and my SLP 1 3/4 headers

I use the AC Delco FR3LS, although it isn't a true shorty plug. It's the plug recommended by AFR and Trick Flow for their aluminum heads. You can try cross-referencing this plug and see which manufacturer makes the shortest plug.

Yeah, it's kind of fun to get in there isn't it? What I had to do was find a spark plug socket was made with facets on the ratchet end so that an open end wrench can be used to turn it. Then I had to cut it down by at least half, and drill out the square hole for the ratchet so that the spark plug will fit through it. Once you cut it short enough you can slip it on around the headers and you just use a wrench to break it loose and turn it. HTH

I have found that the Bosch platinums, and the Canadian Tire (because I see that you are a fellow Canadian) Motomaster spark plugs are the same length as the Accel shorty plugs. But I don't know if any of them have the gasket for alum heads... hope this helps.

My Rapidfires actually toch the headers when they are installed. I found a plug recommended by Edelbrock and I am going to do a little "dimpling". I am also going to try a set of those ceramic boot protectors. Overall I need to come up with about an 1" clearance. Would it be possible to "double up" the header gaskets to move the header away from the head?

I hate the Accel shorty plugs with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns. They were good for clearance issues, but I replaced them about once every six weeks.

I used the Champions that Edelbrock reccomends. They're a tight fit, but I have at least a 1/2" of clearance around all of my spark plug boots.

I don't see why you couldn't double up on the header gaskets.. my friend's dad and uncle who are old time hot rodders have done it before

Thanks for the help guys. I've got a plan..........

1. Champion plug #RC12YC

2. Jacobs ceramic wires

3. "Massage" the headers

4. Double up gaskets

I need about an inch of clearance. If this doesn't work it will give me an excuse to get Hooker SCLT's
