New to 350 TPI

Ive screwed with my 305 TBI enough and its time to step up to the big league's. i already sealed the deal with someone for a 350 TPI out of an 89 F body and only thing it needs is an alt other than that i got myself a 350 for 800 bills. so what should i need for this or look for on this thing? sorry but ive never even seen a TPI setup in person so im totally new overall. will this bolt all up to everything? he said he has the wiring harness also. as soon as i get back im going to unbolt the old one and pull it out and dump in the newer one., but i dount its just gonna be bolt and go. any info and help please?

Sure. The engine will be bolt and go but the wiring harnesses are different.

86-90 350 tpi would make it the easiest computer/harness swap.

your saying find an 86 - 90 to rip out all the stuff i need to put into my 91? i have a question ive been hearing that the TPI system is junk after 4k RPM is this true? so after that its like nothing pulling at all or what? i have a 5 speed w/ a TBI so i can push to 5k easily and sometimes 6k if needed. so i can kiss this all good by when i swap over to tpi? would someone please enlighten me that runs TPI and knows whats up? thanks for the info guys.

Re: New to 350 TPI

You're pulling the stuff required to run your 89 TPI engine not to run your 91 car. TBI and TPI have quite different engine harnesses.
The TPI runs out of breath around 4500 rpm. Intake restrictions cause this. It still pulls above that but not very much. If you wanted to get rid of the restrictions you'd have to either start porting or replacing parts.
You'll be much happier with the 350 TPI over a 305 TBI....trust me. The torque difference alone will put a grin on your face and streaks in your shorts.

Re: New to 350 TPI

oh ok i got cha. well then ill rip that stuff out of a donor car or order it. i guess thats all i need then, and the fuel pump i might just drop it in and then drive it for the time being i know that it will work but not to its specification since my fuel pump wont out out the proper PSI it requires. how much is the 350 TPI rated at stock at the crank and LB FT of torque? im sure it will be a big difference from my TBI 305. thanks again for the info.

Re: New to 350 TPI

Dual cat setups are 245hp and 345lb/ft torque. I'm not sure on the single cat setups but it's only a little less.
Just drop in a new fuel pump. It's a PITA to pull the tank. Do it once, do it right.

Re: New to 350 TPI

Just my 2 cents....but for $800.00 that guy should be giving you the wire harness and the ECM. That would save some headaches for you.

Re: New to 350 TPI

the wiring harness is with it, but im not sure if the ECM comes with it, the guy is being a F--K head and wont even really reply to my emails, he gave me pictures and the engine looks great but other than that, he just gives me one liners as a reply. im about to call his *** and ask him though. even though 800 with the wiring harness is still good IMO.
