Vortec heads, TPI manifold, high flow runners, and 1.6 rockers......good combo?

I'm looking at getting a set of Vortec heads for my car along with the SDPC Vortec TPI base. While I'm at it, I'll go ahead and get some high flow runners (probably AS&M). I'll still be using the stock shortblock and cam for now. Do you think that going ahead and putting some 1.6 rockers on at the same time will be beneficial? What kind of power do you think this combo would put out? All my existing mods are in my sig. Thanks in advance for any input.

Stephen

Also, what do you think the power band would be on this motor? Would the cam be the limiting factor in this setup, even with the 1.6 rockers? Thanks

You can't put a good cam in there without modifing the heads. The stock valve springs can't handle the additional lift so I'd say the limiting factor in your combo are the HEADS.

yes, that's true but that can easily be changed

I hope it is a good combo because I have the heads, intake, and 1.6 rockers on the kitchen table waiting to be installed. I am going to be getting runners soon too. I bought the upgraded heads, machined for screw in studs, guide plates, and .550 max lift springs. I plan on going with an LT4 hot cam down the road.

Well like I said, I'll be putting Vortec heads on so they won't be the limiting factor. I'm just wondering if the stock cam with 1.6 rockers will be able to do the job. What type of power do you think it would make and at what rpm? Down the road when I get a new shortblock, I plan on going with the LT4 Hot Cam also.

Thanks

The stock Vortec heads are good to about .460-.470" lift, so with a stock TPI cam and 1.6 rockers you'll be fine. If you're gonna get the AS&M runners, get the semi-siamesed runners. After that the cam will be the limiting factor, but you should still make some good power.

Hehe Steve91Z28 sounds like we think a lot alike. I should have 1/4 times for my set up by the end of November. Email me if you got any questions about how well it goes together. Ehelmsin@hotmail.com
