frustrated idleing!!
1989 iroc 305TPI automatic
ok so.... my car would idle and run fine when cold (idle was a little high though) but when warm the idle would bounce and sometimes stall when in drive and smelled rich. although, while driving or on the gas it was fine, but when coasting at no foot on accel pedal, it would jerk when the rpms bounced. the only code i had was a 22. so i replaced the iac and the tps and adjusted both per the tech bulletin. tps at .53volts. note: when i jumped the a and b aldl terminal to set the iac and started the car with the iac unplugged the car would start and stall unless i kept on the gas.
so i then changed the tps and adjusted to .53 volts (that's the max the new sensor would go) and now it won't start.
any help???

Set your idle screw out as far as you need to to get the car to idle, even if it is really high, and set the minimum air according to the tech article. Keep doing it until you get it down to a low idle.

Sometimes the IAC is had to get right I for one know this. Try this cross the A and B pin in the ALDL for 40 seconds remove connector from the IAC start engine, wheel chock the front wheels, put into drive, adjust min air until idle is at 550 rpm,put back in park, reconnect IAC connector, set TPS voltage at .65 volts, clear all codes and enjoy.

God I hated doing this, what a pain. When I did this the same thing happened, exactly, but it's because I forgot to plug the MAF back in lol. One more thing that people often ignore but majorly helps is getting some throttle body cleaner and spraying the whole thing out, but more specifically where the IAC plugs in to. You will see a whole lot of buildup and black fluid running out and it should idle MUCH better afterwards. Good luck.
