Haveing some problems with new engine.

I am having some problems with my new engine. I have gotten it too run but I am having misfires all over the place(bad wires I think) I have arcing on no.4. The header primarys are glowing red on no. 3,6,8. I am running 30 pound accell injectors so I don't think I am running lean I think it is most likely a misfire. The engine will run but not idle.

Don't laugh at me but I accidentally droped my distributor in a bucket of water. After I did that I let it dry out before putting it in the car. Is my problem the dist./ignition module, wires, or the 30#injectors.

Sound like a timing isue to me but you probly have checked that I would hop that you used new plug wires on a new engine.I would replace the plug wires if they are old. But you droped your distributer in the water so that probably is not the problem I would change the module and I know some one is going to say somthing abought this but Ive had a long day and cant remember the exact termonoligy for it but the pick up in the distributer may need to be changed it is the plastic thing that the wires are hooked to I want to call it a pick up coil but I dont think that is what it is called for some reson to day Im stuck on motorcycle langage. But some one hear shood know the part Im thinking of.

new ngk plugs
new msd wires
new borg warner cap and rotor.

I don't think the ignition module is the problem becuz it is getting fire but I have never had this type of problem before so who knows? The inside of the dist is rusted really bad from the years of the elements getting to it.

It could be running rich and causing the glow. Do you have a custom chip for those injectors?

Extremely retarded timing can account for glowing headers. Go back and double-check your initial advance, and be sure the EST connector is a.) disconnected while you're checking; and b.) reconnected when finished.

Also, 30lb injectors are way big for a 350. You'll definitely need custom software to account for the extra fuel flow...stock software is calibrated for 22lb/hr.

the module is a selaed unit.. so the moisture
problem isnt a concern. your headers glowing is
an over rich problem. combined with retarded
timing will make things pretty nuts. move
the distributor till you can achive idle.
retime with EST bypass diconnected. then
reconnect. 30# injectors... supercharger?
miniram and 6500rpm?? granted youve got some
fine hardware.. but you are over fueled.
24-26# would be fine. your chip tuner can lean
the overall with the injector constant.

OK, I've been helping Brock with this, and we got it to idle and actually drive today. Initially he set the timing at 6* ATDC instead of BTDC which is what was causing the glowing headers. Also, I had already burned him a custom chip for the 30# injectors, so he wasn't running overly rich.

I left a few hours ago after the initial test drive (with a few problems), so I'm not sure where things stand at the moment. How about an update Brock?

The problem with the headers glowing is solved. Scott burned me a chip for the 30# injectors. I installed a new detent cable today (acually Scott did that I didn't have the steel nerve) and it was not adjusted correctly I just learned how to adjust it and went out and adjusted it. The tv cable still is about 3/16 too long so there is a delay from when the throttle is pushed and the cable starts to move. I can't test drive it at this hour becuz it is so loud! The car has no power and doesn't want to go past 3k and the shifts are really wierd. When you take off it feels like it is in starting from seciond gear as if there isn't any first. I think most of that was the detent cable. I still think I have a miss and I need to go back and re adjust the rockers I noticed they were making way too much noise. I am going to go ahead and put my new ignition module in the car if it is good I will keep it as a spare one. I am also getting a maf code so I am going to the store to get a relay tomorrow. I had some strong backfiring through the intake so I am worried it might have messed up the maf.

If you have any input on my problems please respond. Thanks for all the responces so far.

Brock

it could be your MAFS. . cuz when I had my Talon, I used to blow the intercooler lines and it ran like **** and wouldn't rev, but it still started and moved. . so replace it like you said

Ok I replaced the maf today and I have eliminated that code. I am still having that misfire and I can't for the life of me figure out were it is coming from. I purchased a new distributor a little while ago becuz the original one has a lot of corrosion on that little reluctor wheel or what ever that thing is on the top of the dist. The wires that go into the ignition module were vary corroded. Tomorrow I will replace the dist and see if that is my problem.

If any of you have any other sugestions please post I am at the end of my rope.
