can an 86 distributor be used in an 89 block?

can an 86 distributor be used in an 89 block?

I will be replacing my 86 tpi 305 with an 89 tpi 350.Will the dist. from the 86 work in 89 roller block with no problems?

Axle/Gears: 8.8 rear, 4.56 gears, 4:1 transfer
You will have to change the wiring and remove the external coil. Yes it will work.

You will also need to change the gear, as the '89 has a steel camshaft.

I know about the wiring being different,but will the cam gear swap over from the 89 to the 86 dist. with no problems?

Actually I heard that the dist. gear in all the thirdgens are the same because GM used the same type of gear on the roller cams as they did on the flat tappet cams. Now if you're putting an aftermarket roller cam in there then yes, you will have to change the dist. gear.
