Are 3rd Gens getting more expensive?

I've been looking all over for a good deal on an 88-89 GTA, or possibly another IROC. However, I've noticed there are fewer to be had then 3 years ago. The ones for sale today are MUCH more! I seem to remember when you could get a good one for $4000- $5000. Is it just me?

people might be selling them more cause THEY think they are worth more, but i don't think the blue book value is going up, probably going down.

but then again acording to the kbb.com my cars value is $2,875, with a $1,725 trade in, my opinion is that is a bull**** price

Well, in one more month the thirdgen will start to be a classic as the 1982 models turn 20. Then values should start going up. But If you looking for a late 80's car they're values should still be going down, unless they have a ridiculously low amount of miles on them. I saw somone selling a bone stock 1987 Iroc-Z for 10,000 some odd dollars becasuse it had under 30,000 original miles on it. Good luck with the search.

I guess it all depends on being at the right place in the right time. I just got a '89 GTA convertible in good but not perfect shape for $3300.

I got my 87 irocz with a built 350 making 350HP. I have a dyno sheet for it that says so.
It not in perfect condition but this winter it going under restoration. When ever winter will come I dont Know. This time last year I was butt hole deep in snow.

Any way I got my car for 2,500 bucks.

Depends on how picky you are...I wanted a 5 speed flame red hard top GTA...got one...but I had to travel a good way...and overpay some in my opinion (7K). 40.5K miles, great condition. Its what I wanted, and I payed for it. If I wasn't picky, you can get them for much lower prices than what I payed.

While the BlueBook on our 3rd Gen's isn't increasing, their street value & the overall demand for them is as they are becoming easier & less expensive to modify now. I look at what I sold my extensively modded '90 RS w/ 53K for 5 years ago & it's comparable to the same car w/ 70-80K today.

Also, 25 years is when a car is classic & can be registered as a classic/historic car...not 20.

It's possibly because of the Car Craft and HotRod articles on the 3rd Gens. They are constantly saying that they are the next "69 Camaro" for enthusiasts. Plus, they are a lot easier to work on than the newer 4th gen or other newer cars that are out there.

I would say yes. I have been seeing IROC-Z's and other top models of the Third Gen in good condition selling for crazy prices everywhere, especially 350's.

I purchased my 1987 IROC 5.7L with 18,000 miles last year for 9,000... I consider that a bargain... and I LOVE that car.

BB's on these cars are not 10K, or even 8K...where are you getting your information??? ONLY a 20th TTA or equivalent car can pull that kind of number!

I went to www.edmunds.com and check the above GTA that was supposed to be worth 10,000$. Saying it had 40,000 miles on it (I was unsure) I came up with this:

$6,254 for trade in
$7,524 for private party
9,713 for dealer retail

I went to the edmunds site and came up with a base price of 6900 dealer, and 8710 dealer with 40K miles...maybe geographic location changes some?...However, NADA is what dealers and banks use...good luck finding those figures in NADA.
IF the true value of these GTAs are really higher than what I originally thought, then I feel much better about what I paid for my cars. Also the Kelly Blue Book kbb.com has these cars much lower than edmunds (I think).

My $0.02...yes, in the last 2 years they've gone up. In April 01' I payed 13K for a prisitine 1991 1LE with 19,000 miles on it. Now...I see people asking (not sure if they're getting) 21K bux....?? I'm looking for a 91-92 Black z28 and they're all going for rougly 5-7K...8( I would sell mine now for $17.5K with 26K on it...still pristine and no scratches. SO, the better and rarer the RPO...the more expensive as history has shown since 1967.
